Guest guest
Dear Group, I still think it is important that someone (David Shannahoff - Khalsa), has attempted in his book to treat not only OCD, but Bi-Polar, PTSD, Phobias etc. (despite his being a lousy husband apparently). It would be nice if he was able to comment here. I have spent a lifetime on many different 'cures' and finally something appears which really helps. I have been subject to so many theories and their accompanying cures, that never helped, and were more part of the therapists paradigm rather than OCD's. I see OCD as a nuerological psychiatric disorder. Only certain kriyas help, not all of KY helps, in fact those in the book seem spot on for the condition. If I were a teacher I would like to understand how these kriyas work, and how to outward develop other KY practices around this understanding, as with all conditions, for the benefit of patients. If someone came to me with Hypermania, I would like to be able to understand KY enough to be able to confidently give them some specific kriyas that would really help, not simply de-stressing and relaxing them (which may still have little effect on the illness). There is also a vast difference between having a disorder of this kind, and having never had it, but having ideas, theories, other experiences etc. It would be good to know why it is that a particular kriya works well for a particular conditon, in the same way we do for medication. Meditation is only medication without the 'c' and instead a 't'. Sukhnivas
Guest guest
I am surprised that the moderator allowed a post which includes a speculative personal attack on the character of a member of the Kundalini Yoga Community. Suknivas would be well advised to consider before writing publicly, does this comment uplift or is it destructive and what is the intended result gossip? Guest guest
Liv Nam Kaur, Then why in a previous post related to this discussion does Guru Prem Kaur talk of a marriage of 16 years of tears. I was just being ironic, but then I forget, spiritual people are not renowned for their sense of humour. Get you facts straight, oh I'm being negative oh no!.... Guest guest
Hi Sukhnivas, > I would like to be able to understand KY enough to be able to confidently give them some specific kriyas that would really > help, not simply de-stressing and relaxing them (which may still have little effect on the illness). We all wish we could! Yoga works on things that are below concious perception for most of us. As you become more concious you understand more of it. The great yogis who had highly developed conciousness could design these kriyas and meditaitons for others to use without understanding how they work. If we can't get access to a great teacher then we can only trust what is wriiten & do it as it is written with discipline and grit. > There is also a vast difference between having a disorder of this kind, and having never had it, > but having ideas, theories, other experiences etc. True. But I would suggest that if you only do kriyas targetted at your specific problems you may miss the over-all de-stressing aspect of the yoga which is beneficial at a fundamental level. There will be some optimal balance that you may have to find yourself unlesssome experienced teacher on this list could suggest a daily sadhana for you. > Meditation is only medication without the 'c' and instead a 't'. Meditation is developed from studying specific ailments and is used to directly effect a cure. Meditaiton/yoga comes from studying us holistically in a way that most western scientists don't even know exists. It creates the conditions in which the 'healing' parts of you can work better. I think the targetted kriyas are not miracle workers but are designed to speed up the process for people with specific problems - but I am not a highly experienced teacher or researcher.... Good luck - I think you have the drive to work very hard at this and become the person you seek now. Keith PS I am sorry some-one wrote a little harshly to you on this list.
