Come to Owen Sound to celebrate breastFEST Oct. 25-30. Complete the breastFEST

Challenge (see below) and enter a draw where you could win a SaunaRay infrared

sauna or many other great prizes donated by our community partners! (Also let us

know if you would like to organize breastFEST in your community for 2010)

The BreastFest Challenge:

Attend at least 3 of our events this week and practice these

10 Best Breast Tips for 7 days between Oct. 31-Nov. 6

Spend an hour this week in the sauna to eliminate environmental chemicals

and toxic metals stored in your fat cells. (local saunas are available for use

at Stone Tree; the Family Y; Days Inn; Inn on the Bay; Hair, Body and Soul;

Kinexions; and Trillium Healing Arts.)

Exercise at least 40 minutes each day or 4 hours a week, outside of your

normal activities (walk, jog, swim, dance, cycle, rebound, use an elliptical

machine etc.) Use the facilities for free Oct. 25 until Nov. 6 at the Stone

Tree, the Women's Fitness Centre and/or Curves, and then consider a membership!

Participate in the Wednesday evening Bike Face Women's Bike Ride, the Thursday

evening jog and/or swim at the Stone Tree, Pilates classes at Kinexions, yoga at

Trillium Healing Arts.

Sleep in a dark room, with no light from the street coming into your

bedroom (get new blinds - not PVC- or wear an eye mask at night). Use a night

light in the washroom. To keep melatonin levels high, avoid turning on a bright

light at night.

Switch to using non-toxic cleaning products, like baking soda and vinegar

to clean your sinks, toilets, fridge, stove, floors and counters. Avoid cleaning

products with chlorine. Chlorine combines with carbon in your body to act like

estrogen.

Avoid cosmetics, nail polish, toothpaste, shampoo etc. containing parabens

(methyl, propyl, butyl, and ethyl paraben) or phthalates. Read labels and choose

brands that are paraben and phthalate-free. Both of these chemicals act like

estrogen. Visit Lawson's, Nutrition Health, Good Health Mart or GNC for safer

cosmetics. See www.cosmeticsdatabase.com

Drink water and keep any leftover food stored in the fridge in glass,

ceramic or stainless steel rather than plastic. The plastic leaches bisphenol A

which acts like the hormone estrogen. You can buy fabulous Klean Kanteen

stainless steel water bottles at the Water Store and Lawsons.

Adopt a vegan diet for one week. This means no meat, fish, eggs or dairy.

Your protein sources will be legumes (lentils, chick peas, split peas, mung

beans etc.), tofu, nuts and seeds. For recipes, see www.mammalive.net . You can

eat healthy vegan meals with a focus on breast-friendly ingredients in Owen

Sound this week at the Ginger Press, Marketside Food Shop, Rocky Raccoon, and

the Bean Cellar. Join VOSA (Vegetarians of Owen Sound and Area) to help get you

started – contact Leah Hewitt at (519) 372-0068, veg.fare ,

http://vegfare.weebly.com They usually meet to eat the second Sunday of each

month.

Add 2 tbsp. of freshly ground flaxseeds daily to your cereal, juice, fruit

smoothie, salad or bean dishes. (Use an electric coffee grinder to grind them.

Eat them within 15 minutes after grinding). Buy flaxseeds in bulk at Lawson's,

the Bulk Barn or Zehr's.

Eat 2 tsp. of turmeric daily added to your food or take 1000 mg of curcumin

in capsule form daily.

Spend 15 minutes outside exposing your arms and legs to sunlight every day

this week or take 2000 IU of vitamin D3 daily.
