Guest guest
Sat Nam, Nadh. Many blessings to you and thank you so much for your question. Every person who practices Kundalini Yoga and/or Sikh Dharma has a beautiful perspective to share on this issue. What I would like to do is to share a quote from a Gurdwara lecture given by Yogi Bhajan in 1989, and also direct you and your students to the video where the quote came from. To Yogi Bhajan, the Shabad Guru was a necessary part of the practice of Kundalini Yoga. Whether or not someone decided to become a " Sikh " or not - the Shabad Guru as created by the historical Sikh Gurus is an integral component of the practice of Kundalini Yoga as Yogi Bhajan taught it. Here is an excerpt from the lecture. I have also posted a link to the video if you would like to view the entire lecture yourself. The lecture is free to view on-line. All prayers that this is helpful for you and your students in understand the relationship between Kundalini Yoga and Sikh Dharma. February 5, 1989 " You have come to me as a teacher. But I was only a guide teacher. I was not a Guru. And I know without Kundalini - so long as it doesn't awaken and open up the chakras, man stands no chance. You are truly the students of Kundalini Yoga, and whether you know it or not, your chakras one way or the other shall be opened. Not to all the extent, but to some extent. " Why does a Kundalini Yoga student ever do anything wrong? Or doesn't know anything? I have the answer to that. Because you have a lot of fears, a lot of paranoia. You must understand - when the light opens up, when you light a candle, you also see all the garbage in the room. An awakened man realizes all his weaknesses. All he has to do is sweep them away with the broom of the Name of God and trust of the Guru... " I knew that you are the students of the Divine Motherly Power of the Kundalini. The science is true and the art is true. You will be awakened. So you need the Guru - real Guru. Shabad Guru. You need a father and you need a new mother when you get awakened. The question was, since there seems to be such a tight partnership between Kundalini Yoga and Sikhism (such as with the mantras), where do we draw the line between what belongs to Kundalini Yoga and what belongs to Sikhism? Since the two are so enmeshed, perhaps it'd be interesting to point out the differences, as this might be easier than to draw out the resemblances? I know that, for one, many Sikhs don't practice any type of yoga at all, nor are they vegetarians. That's all I could come up with. > > Thanks for your help, > > Nadh >
