Salutations! Just joined, & am interested in starting upon a new path to better

myself, so I may help others heal.

My name's Justin, 29, from NJ.

I am a Music Therapist (Board-Certified) & guitar instructor (special-needs

lessons too). I've been playing guitar for 14 years; 7-string guitars are my

major instruments (electric, acoustic, & classical models). I also play darbuka

& djembe drums, shruti box, keyboard, acoustic/electric mandolin, & produce/DJ

my own electronic music.

Following the vegan lifestyle as closely as I can (what started out for health

reasons--getting sick off bad meats in university too many times--to animal [ &

human worker] rights), for about 4 years, & have felt much more at peace within

myself! To each their own here; I will always peacefully encourage, if

genuinely asked... :)

Our family welcomed its newest member, Greyson (our 14 year-old cat), when we

adopted him back in 2004, from a friend of dad's. He's a friendly, social guy

who loves his snuggles & especially his treats hahaha! I honestly don't know

what I'd do without the little bedhog... :P

Well, I just wanted to say hello to everybody & send some good vibes!

Peace always,

~Justin

Hi Justin!

Welcome and best wishes.

I have a 15 year old cat 'So-Cute', she is going good and has a heart tablet

every day, she is long haired and thus a pain, but she is great and was born

from her Mother 'Lady' who got killed Jay walking.

People here are really great and will help you in any way they can.

Blessings,

Paul (Sukhnivas)

Sat Nam, Justin - and welcome!

You'll find there's a lot of reading in this group - a lot of information - and a lot of helpful suggestions. Are you taking Kundalini Yoga classes where you live? If not, you can go to the 3HO website and click on the Teacher's directory to find a teacher in your area. Good luck. Look forward to seeing you here!

Blessings,

Namaste, Guru Jiwan!

Thank you for the kind words and welcome! I am very, very new here; haven't had

the opportunity to take a class yet, but I do feel a pull in this sort of

direction. (I feel silly asking, but what does " Sat Nam " mean?) I meditate

personally, using my shruti box, and sometimes vocalizing, as a private means of

grounding myself. Sometimes I'll do some meditative drumming as well...

I'm really looking to surround myself with positive, peaceful people, and shed

as much of my depression/stored muscle tension/anxiety as I can; it has plagued

me for far too long... I wish to better myself, so I may in turn, be a better

Music Therapist for my students. I just have a major setback of finances right

now, as I am out of work, save a couple guitar students a week, and don't nearly

have enough money to dedicate to a class as I would dream of... but I'm working

on still finding employment, so I can start to transform my life into the fully

capable peacemaker I wish to be.

I can honestly say that being a vegan brings me a small measure of peace,

knowing I am doing something I feel is right for not only my inner well-being,

but those creatures whom we were entrusted to care for on this earth. But that

is only the physical side of things. I feel like I need something spiritually

as well. I was raised Lutheran, but fell away from my upbringing in college,

due to some dark, unfortunate events in my life. I have experimented with

energywork, with scary results, so I left that too. Recently, Indian deities

have intrigued me (Saraswati, goddess of music/arts/poetry). I have been trying

to reconnect with the 'christian' notion of god (?) through my own private,

quiet prayers, but something still feels " off " . Sorry if I'm rambling here,

haha... Any and all help is so much appreciated and welcomed, and I thank you

for your time and blessings!

Peace always,

~Justin

Sat Nam Justin,

You can use Sat Nam the same way you used Namaste, as a greeting that says

something like " truth is your identity " .

If you cannot attend a class, search online and youtube, there's tons. I'd also

recommend getting Shakti Parhwa's " Eternal Flow of Power " to learn more about

the Kundalini path, as well as a yoga manual such as The Owner's Manual for the

Human Body. These things should keep you plenty busy for a long time.

And it sounds to me that an exploration into some of the Kundalini mantras is

beckoning. They are calling, " chant me " ! Can you feel it? Do you feel something

screaming inside of you? But like a shook up bottle of pop, you open it slowly

lest it explode! Kirtan Kriya is always a good bet. Bless you.
