Guest guest
Sat naam, I know I have not been actively posting to the group for some time, but I have been a member for many years and didn't know about this "policy". I am very dissappointed to hear this. Aren't a lot of yogis here to find out about Kundalini classes worldwide? It is great to have such an extensive sangha that includes teachers and their messages about what they are doing to pass on this wonderful practice to others. Thanks everyone! Ong so hung Ranjit K. So there's no need to advertise local events. If, however, your local event is a HUGE one, meant to attract attendees from way FAR AWAY, then do please post, to kundalini-yoga .And if your big event host is not yet a member of the worldwide advertised at www.3ho.org and www.kundaliniyoga.com, then by all means please invite them to join, which they can do with a simple email to kundalini-yoga- .Blessings,Amar Atma Hotmail: Powerful Free email with security by Microsoft. Guest guest
Sat nam, Are we interested in each and every topic that is posted here? I doubt it - at least I am not. And so, in the digest I receive each morning,I pick and chose - same as with any other discussion group, magazine or newspaper... Is it really cumbersome to be notified of what is happening elsewhere? If all knowledge has to be available, we got to make it accessible ! ) Anandjot Kaur
Guest guest
Let me explain it differently, then. We love learning about workshops, festivals, events, yatras, tantrics, solstices, etc., because they're huge events meant to attract attendees from outside ones region. Advertising those events makes sense in an international , don't you think? There's no solid line there. Only the event organizer him- or herself can judge when the event is large enough to qualify for advertising. But letting us know about ones 10 Bodies workshop this Saturday probably isn't a good use of a read by the entire Earth. On the other hand, if you're having some super special event that's local in nature, but you want to share it with the world, by all means do. Only you can judge when you have some special energy to share. Does that help? Guest guest
What makes an event 'local' vs 'international' anyway? Does it make any sense in that case to have a separate sub-topic for 'local' events? Does anyone know really have any experience with how many people this board drives to events? Mostly you have your local marketing methods, mailing list, etc. Why load this list with smaller events if it's only bringing 1 person every tenth class or so? What type of class/or/teacher is mostly likely to create a " hit " on this board as opposed your standard sources? These are the kinds of questions that this discussion begs. Personally I'm pretty happy to hear about most of the larger events myself. A big workshop or series in a nearby city is definitely of interest to me. It would be a loss I think if I missed hearing about these events (e.g. Addiction Workshop in Toronto, Superhealth in Millis, MA - and I'm in NYC). These people have no other way to reach new people outside of their " local " venues. On standard Discussion Forums, there are many topics and sub-topics. Unfortunately, this is not quite how a Mailing List works. Forums can tend to be larger with more range of discussions. It can also be harder to scan everything at once. But maybe at some point someone will build a nice Kundalini Discussion Forum so we can have many different discussions going on at once, and people can advertise their events to their hearts content. Not sure if there's enough drive yet and participants to make a case for an active Discussion Forum, but it's a thought-seed for the future. Maybe all it would take is a secondary mailing list for events, and that's it. It's clumsy, but people who want more emails can sign up for it, and those that don't want to, don't have to. Guest guest
Sat Nam Is it really a big problem if people advertise here? I personally don't mind seeing the adverts, they are plainly stated in the two line heading, and if I see 'Toronto' or 'NYC' I just don't open them. I guess it is an individual thing. The only thing I mind is that the USA seems to be so much more of a happening and exciting place than here in stodgy UK. That is what I like about the 'Yanks'(have to get a laugh in somewhere!) they always go for it in a big way, sometimes I wish I lived in the USA. I keep hoping for a 'North London' big event, to date I haven't seen one advertised. Blessings, Sukhnivas
Guest guest
having a secondary email list just for workshops is a good ideaI second that motion!Paula
Guest guest
Sat Nam! There are different settings for all List members with profiles. If you don't have one they are remarkably easy to set up and trouble free. With a Profile: 1- You can set it to receive all email post. 2- You can set it to receive a daily digest 3- You can set it to receive nothing at all, and opt to go online to see the posts. Just go to http://www. and take care of it. You can go down your personal list of what subject line simply doesn't blow you hair back, and simply not open it. It is troublesome to draw a line on anything....... ) I'd say, if anything, if all a member ever does is posts their gig, but never participates in discussion, then that seems kinda dry..... maybe that's part of the reason this topic is even on the radar. Blessings, Dharam Ever want to play a gong before you buy it? Check out my new 'user friendly' web page. http://gongsongs.com/products.html It's kinda neat, I think (shameless plug)
Guest guest
I think every post I've made over the past 4 years on this topic has made it clear that we WANT workshop posts on the " bigger " type events you describe below. It's just the one hour local workshops that probably won't be as well received on this group. As far as starting a new group for events, go ahead if someone wants to. But part of the utility of this intl group is knowing about the larger events. And, frankly, too few organizers are using this to post invitations to them. So, major half- to -full day workshop organizers, please do post! Guest guest
For what it's worth, I personally do not mind seeing events posted (big, small or in between) for areas other than mine for several reasons; 1) I have passed information on for an event not local to me to friends/family/students traveling, etc. when appropriate, 2) Sometimes events being hosted in other locations will inspire me to create a similiar event in my area. International shouldn't mean limiting this global community from information, but just the opposite, expanding all of our horizons. In closing, as another post states, if a post doesn't apply to and/or interest me, I simply move on to the next post that does. Smiles!
