Guest guest
Dear Friends and Colleagues, This is my personal plea asking you to help Haiti. As you may know, for almost four years I spent a tremendous amount of time in Haiti developing a number of projects that we were trying to get off the ground with both the government and private sector. I fell in love with the country and its people, who have an amazing spirit. Like so many others, we have a lot of friends/family we can’t find. On a good day, Port-au-Prince is ill-equipped to function properly, so what’s happened is beyond comprehension. Haitians are the strongest, most patriotic, united people I’ve ever met, so I believe they will come through this, but the loss and suffering is too painful to imagine. I just heard from someone that returned from Haiti today that what we’re seeing and hearing doesn’t scratch the surface for what’s going on. There are many ways to donate through legitimate major organizations like the Red Cross, World Food Program, Doctors Without Borders, Food for the Poor, etc. People often want to donate to smaller organizations but don’t know which are the right ones. Needless to say anywhere you make a donation will help, but I’ve chosen to donate to the Lambi Fund, an organization that I’ve worked with, that’s on the ground in Haiti doing fantastic work, and that I totally trust. Lambi Fund is not a first responder, but a second responder which means that they’ll be there long after the relief service providers leave, working to rebuild Haiti. Their first step will be to help members of peasant groups get food and essentials for their families to re-establish their lives. Please visit www.lambifund.org for more information or to make a donation. Remember to be grateful for everything we take for granted. PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW AND DONATE TODAY. Thanking you in advance for your support and prayers. Guest guest
Greetings all,Being that I've never seen a post from this person and checking out the link, I was questioning whether this was a legitimate charity (the site looks a bit amateurish and sketchy).I researched http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary & orgid=10855 so it seems this is a legitimate organization thanksPaulaOn Thu, Jan 14, 2010 at 12:51 PM, susan jacobs <susanjacobs460 wrote: Dear Friends and Colleagues, This is my personal plea asking you to help Haiti. Guest guest
Thank you this was both moving and insightful. We are doing prayers in all my classes and I have sent links out this morning to my list. Guest guest
Haiti is also in my prayers. Recently I just finished a fabulous book Mountains Beyond Mountains, by Tracey Kidder, all about the Haitians and their plight and Dr. Paul Farmer who is doing some major good with limited supplies and help. He is helping people with AIDS and TB. The country is rampant with those two diseases. Bush in all his glory outlawed condoms coming into the country. Hopefully they are allowed now. These people really needed help before the earthquake, and now this disaster is compounding things for sure. Paul Farmer's Oranization is 'Partners In Health.' You can google it in to see what's needed ,etc. Blessings and keep the prayers and funds going to these beautiful souls!
