Guest guest
Sat Nam About 1 1/2 weeks ago I seriously injured my lower back. It was after bumping up my yoga practice with the beginning of New year Sadhana. I had aggrevated an old injury then. I had an intial adjustment by my chiropractor and seemed better. Then I began to have further problems and began to see another chiro who specializes in lower back issues. I was also dealing with massive stress at work (culmination of 6 mos long issues) 2nd chiro took x-rays and showed me significiant degeneration in lumbar area and cervical spine. I have begun extensive treatment program w/him, including a lot of rest, ice, supplements to lower inflammation (tumeric, fish oil, calcium carbonate) I have not been able to stand up straight for several days.....Now have new bosses at work and want to impress and proceed with program i run under their guidance. Their first day is today Chiro's advice was to " stay home " if I cnnot walk upright and care for back first.....suspect many things going on on multiple levels here and have never had this much problem w/back before.... Have been spending Sadhana time doing deep breathing, meditating, setting intentions as advised by another yoga teacher.... Would appreciate thoughts/suggestions.. Guest guest
Hello...Wahe Guru Kaur........I learned these from a famous blind chiropractor that i studied with for many years ( he was my father-in -law) 3 simple exercises....absolute guaranteed to work....but first...if you are showing degeneration....you are going to have to do some serious training to re-align the hips......like beginning pilates......think...loose hamstrings...and flat tight lower stomach muscles...this is the only thing that will permanently heal it.....But here are the 3 exercises to get you out of pain fast....do them as many times a day as you need....First thing....these are not " stretches " this is just a gentle " rocking " to move the vertebrae Lay on your back...slide the heals up close to the buttocks..( so you have an upside -down " V " with the bend in your knees Now scootch back so you get the curve out of the lower back.... 1) let the knee fall out to the side....gently....10 X....then the other knee 10 x ....you don't let it fall...just move it gently...out to the side and back to middle....(remember...this is not for stretching) 2).....bring one knee up to chest...rap arms around....(other leg remains the same.....Upside down V)......10 long slow breaths......then switch sides...10 more breaths... 3)....grab underneath your knee...with one hand..and move the leg in a circle...10x one way...then 10x the other way.......(the other foot remains on the ground in the V.......) So if you had a long paint brush sticking out of your knee....you would be drawing a circle on the ceiling above you....... then put that foot back on the ground...and do the same with the other leg........ Thats it.........it will work.....I can't tell you how many back operations it has saved from happening over the years....... Peace Kirantana and get a beginning Pilates DVD......the beginning set is all lower belly and lower back training for alignment...... Guest guest
Sat Nam Ji I would concentrate on sets with forwarda bends and plough poses, etc. Sometimes back bends can compress the vertebrae. Maybe some twists like half spinal twist. Mostly, listen to your body and see what happens in certain poses.
