Guest guest
Sat Nam, dear Kundalini Yoga friends, Does anyone know where one can buy humane sheepskins? I am looking for a supplier, to buy wholesale from, who doesn't kill the sheep only for the skin and treats the sheep well. Guest guest
Or a fake sheepskin, not from animal at all as well? Please let me know if you know where to get that. I have been looking and cant find? Maybe a wool/ish one, not from sheep or deer. Thanks! Jaipreet Kaur
Guest guest
I would look for small local sheep farms, either a local farmer or small sheep business. Talk with locals or even a local small butcher shop and ask for a number/name. Then you can do more investigation as you go to meet with the local farm and actually see the animals and as you ask about how they treat their animals, how they 'use' them for meat and skins and then how they are treated during the slaughtering process. Perhaps you can find a used one on 'freecycle' or in garage sales - something you can recycle and reuse and perhaps that way contributing to one less sheep being slaughtered if not necessary. That's how I rec'd mine - my father had had it long ago and was just going to throw it out and I offered it take it. Because it was so old I do not know any info about it and it may not have had a good life but I believe I just contributed to recycling which in my mind is good. Good luck on your search and would love to hear the outcome! Peace & Harmony, Judy judy
Guest guest
you could go to garage sales and pick up a sheepskin car seat cover and then just cut off what you don't want. Maybe only pay a buck or 2. Sat Nam, Sat Avtar Kaur Kundalini-Yoga , Stacie <sunlightyoga wrote: > > Or a fake sheepskin, not from animal at all as well? Guest guest
Sat Nam ji, it is my understanding - from what we were taught by Yogi Bhajan - is that the sheep are a by - product of the meat industry. The same for cow leather. There used to be a 3HO family shoe business called Shakti Shoes. I know that the raw skins are not expensive because back in 1980 or so a friend who had an organic farm practically gave me a few skins that he had after he slaughtered his sheep for meat. His tanning was only to cover them in salt to treat them and the hides were fairly funky. Here the hides were just leftovers. The modern tanning treatments are what make the skins expensive - also what makes them machine washable and durable. From what Yogiji taught us - by using the skins to meditate on it furthers the evolution of the soul of the animal. I sell the sheepskins at solstice and wholesale also. You can contact me for any other questions. blessings, Karam Singh Sterling,Vacell-703-628-5127
Guest guest
Sat Nam, everyone, Thank you for your input. Jaipreet: if you are not interested in using a sheepskin, you could use a wool mat or blanket. I usually find that the " fake " sheep skins are synthetic and strange. Wool is the most important factor in the technology. Guest guest
Try Ikea, they have sheepskins (2 sizes and reasonable price) and you can look on their website for the method of obtaining. They are pretty good about renewable/sustainable resources despite their size. www.ikea.com Cardie
