squatting and fluid on the knees??

Sat Nam!

I am doing Gurmukh's KY DVD and have done it 26 times. The squatting segment is

something that I have enjoyed, however, she says you'll feel your knees getting

stronger, but in my case it is the reverse. I feel my thighs gaining strength,

my endurance is great. I feel strong doing it all around, but my knees are just

not liking it. They are tight feeling, kind of like they might have some fluid

on them. They ache if I am in easy pose awhile without moving them. They pop

and crack worse than before, and I notice a pulling sensation in the sides when

I do straight legged poses. I'd hate to give up the squatting for these knees

when everything else seems to love it. Any suggestions on how to make my knees

love it too?

Be blessed,

Kelli

........what about listening the voice and the sound of your knees? :-)

Our body knows better than what we can guess what is good for us and what is

not.....and healthy knees..........are very useful!!!

Try to give them a span of time of rest (working with kriya not involving

that kind of movements) and see how they will take your choice (I would also

ask for an opinion of a specialist....fluid, pop and crack are not good

words to read speaking of a knee).

Just my two cents!

Sat nam Kelli,

The pulling sensation at the sides of the knees when you stretch the backs of

your legs is most likely your hamstring muscles (on the back of your thighs).

They connect to the sides of the knees. Squatting repeatedly would surely

engage them and work them hard during the downward movement, and that may be why

they have gotten so tight. Coming up from squatting is more likely to be felt

in the quadriceps, the front of your thighs. the tndons for the quadriceps go

down the front of your knee, encasing the kneecap. If there's pain there, your

quads m,ay also be too tight. Do some life nerve stretches (both legs at once,

and/or one leg at a time) for hamstrings. Do fish pose if you are able, to

stretch your quadriceps, if they need it too.

Hello,

I used to have many of the symptoms you are describing in my knees years ago.

Knees take longer to heal than other parts of the body. It sounds like you may

be pronating...it's important to keep the knee over the second toe or think of

getting it over the little toe. You don't want to twist or roll them in. Ice can

help, and grounding. Knee pain is often connected to family problems.

Your post made me appreciate the fact that my knees have completely healed.

Emotional release has been a big part of it. Are your knees crying? Lots of

lifestyle work on the first chakra is very helpful, too.

I have a Russian exercise that may help you, too, if you want to email me.

Hello Kelli,

My knees also fill with fluid. The left in particular perhaps as the

result of two injuries and a surgery. The surgery resulted in a knee

cap that does not track properly. What I do to help move fluid away

from the knee joints and to keep them mostly pain free and moving well

is frog pose - every day, well, almost every day. Yogi Bhajan wrote

that frog pose would cure all problems of the knees and so the journey

began. And then there is turmeric which can be incorporated into

golden milk or cooked in food.

Happy Squatting!
