Guest guest
Sat Nam, I remember, many years ago, the 'purist' argument that CD did not compare to Vinyl or the original media on which sessions were recorded, analogue magnetic tape. That is still true. What I liked about CD, the, was there was no 'noise', hiss, pops or scratches. The problem was/is the warmth is missing. That is what happens when all of these rich sound vibrations are reduced to the binary system of 1s and 0s, which is square waveform, either ON or OFF. Regarding Gong, 'Live' is best. There is no question about that. There is a difference between the purely cognitive (cerebral) engagement, and engagement at the emotional (limbic) level. The limbic brain is our "animal". It is the primitive leftover which responds to threat or danger (missing the snap of a twig can mean death). The only senses which connect directly to the limbic brain are the olfactory (smell) and auditory (hearing). It is important to activate the emotional response in order to obtain the complete experience of the music, and in this case, the sound current of the Gong. I've had people experience deep healings, chakra alignment, memories of past lives, etc. A tape or CD over a good system can be effective, even though some would argue that you've already lost as much as 80% of the 'information', depending on the audio system. You be surprised what it might take ( http://www.highemotionaudio.com ) to hear from a CD what was originally played. Unless you are prepared to spend a lot, the best one can get from CD recorded media or tape is a level of relaxation or better sleep, depending on the recording - good, but nothing transcendental. The mp3 format, at it's highest quality (320kbps) is 1/10 the quality of CD! Short answer.... If you can taste the difference between NY thin crust and Chicago deep dish, buy a gong or buy the CD (with at least a decent system). Don't mess with the mp3.
