Guest guest Posted December 20, 2003 Report Share Posted December 20, 2003 Gitananda Yoga Family gathers in Chennai The Chennai wing of the Gitananda Yoga Family gathered in Chennai on Saturday December 6th for a day of Satsangha was organised by Yogacharini Maitreyi, who is in charge of Gitananda Yoga activities in Chennai. She chose as the locale the beautiful heritage building Amethyst located in central Chennai, which with its palatial ancestral mansive ambience and vast, well kept gardens, a real oasis in the modern cement-desert of present day Chennai. A bus load of happy Yoga Sadhaks from the Six Month Residential International Yoga Teachers Training Course and Senior Yoga Asana demonstration from Yoganjali Natyalayam arrived by 9;30 am at the site. The twelve-member party was greeted with Nadasuram, Thavil and baskets of flowers (literally) poured on their head. After this joyous welcome, all proceeded to the breakfast table to enjoy Pongal, Idly and Halva, prepared lovingly by Padma, Maitreyi’s administrative assistant. Satsangha student at 11 am and more than 100 people gathered to her Amma Meenakshi speech on the meaning of “Sat” and “Satsangha” in modern life: A lovely question and answer session followed her hour long discourse. Yogacharini Nalini Devi of Spain, Senior Teacher Assistant of ICYER, spoke on “Yoga in the West”, Balaji, Chandrasekar, Tamil Sengolan and Dayanidhi gave an excellent Yoga Tableaus demonstration. Students of the Six Month Yoga Course gave their impression of Yoga, which was spiritual and cheerful. Maitreyi honoured parents of two of the students in the Six Month Course, Pradeep Muthiah and Maithili Sharan, quoting Amma who of few says, “when I met a good person, I always give full card it few them goodness to their parents”. The mother of Maitreyi was also honoured by Meenakshi Devi. A wonderful feast of Kerala-Style food followed the discourse, and demonstration at 2:20 pm. The Pondicherry group then visited Maitreyi office in Chennai as well as her home situated near by.
