YOGANJALI NATYALAYAM INAUGURATES TANJAVUR PROGRAMME

 

The Yoganjali Natyalayam team of dancers lit up the stage with their splendid Natya Karanas, Nrittya and Yoga Bhava at the Inaugural Function of the South Zone Cultural Center’s Salangai Natham 2004 in Tanjavur on Saturday, January 31st, in the presence of two eminent Chief Guests, Their Excellencies the Governors of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, Shri P.S. Ramamohan Rao and Sri Surjit Singh Barnala.

 

The Ten-Day National Cultural Festival was the first large programme to be held in the beautiful campus of the South Zone Cultural Centre on Medical College Road on the outskirts of Tanjavur. The programme was held on the new outdoor stage on the campus and Yoganjali Natyalayam had been specially invited to present the very first programme on that stage. The elite audience expressed appreciation for the well-trained young dancers and the original choreography of the Bharat Natyam Troupe.

 

Yoganjali Natyalayam Director Puduvai Kalaimamani Meenakshi Devi Bhavanani, Chairman Dr. Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani, and Smt Devasena Bhavanani, Head, Dance Department, led the eleven-member dance team of Padma M. Prashanthini, D. Lakshmi, V. Renuka Devi, Agila, Saranyalakshmi, G. Kanimozhi, Samiksha Kapoor, Shailaja, Kripavathi, Vidya and Bhuvaneshwari.

 

The Governor of Tamil Nadu Sri P.S. Ramamohan Rao also inaugurated the Guru Shishya Parampara Scheme by which young artists can study traditional arts in Guru Kula setting. Pondicherry’s well known Drama Master Puduvai Kalaimamani Thiru Puduvai Dasan, was honoured on the occasion, as the Guru selected for the Drama Department in the Performing Arts under this scheme.

 

Simultaneously, a National Arts Craft Exhibition was held in special stalls erected on the campus grounds. Troupes from all over India were invited to perform at the Festival held from January 31st to February 9th, including the Bharat Natyam by Yoganjali Natyalayam at the Inauguration Function. Programmes on other days included Baiga Dance - Madhya Pradesh; Kuchipudi from Andhra Pradesh, Unmattai from Karnataka, Dhobia from Uttar Pradesh, Bhandiya from Lakshadweep, Hoomen from Rajastan, Hozagiri from Tripura, Oppana from Kerala and many other troupes.

 

This spectacular Ten Day Festival, inaugurated by the Governors of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, was also witnessed and felicitated by Thiru K. Panindra Reddy IAS, Director, South Zone Cultural Centre, Tanjavur; Dr. E. Sundaramoorthy, Vice Chancellor, Tamil University, Tanjavur; Thiru P.A. Ramaiah IAS., Secretary, Tamil Development and Cultural Department, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, and Thiru S. Kosalaraman IAS, District Collector, Tanjavur.Yogacharya Dr.Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani Chairman
