FOURTH SWAMI GITANANDA BEST YOUTH & CHILD AWARDS 2003

 

Best Youth - S TAMILSENGOLAN Best Child - R SUBASHINI

 

S. TAMILSENGOLAN a student of Rajiv Gandhi Engineering College and Yoganjali Natyalayam was declared winner of the Swami Gitananda Best Youth Award 2003 while R SUBASHINI, of St Patrick Mat HSS and Yoganjali Natyalayam won the Swami Gitananda Best Child Award 2003.

They received the prestigious award from the hands of the Chairman PT & TDC, Sri NEELA GANGADHARAN MLA Avl on the 29th January 2003 at a glittering function held at Hotel Jayaram, Pondicherry that was attended by an audience of more then 300 Yoga enthusiasts.

S. Kaviarasan of Amalorpavam HSS and T. Tamilarasan of Rajiv Gandhi Engineering College were the 1st and 2nd runners up in the youth category. U. Parinitha and R Monika of Cluny School were the 1st and 2nd runners up in the child category.

This is the FOURTH year that this competition is being held and previous awardees are D LAKSHMI (2000), N RAMYA (2001) and V RENUKADEVI (2002). Dhesh M received the inaugural Best Child Award instituted from last year (2002).

More than 100 children and youth participated in this unique award competition that tested their Yoga Art, Yoga Dumb Charades, Yoga Elocution, Yoga Essay and Yoga Team Quiz abilities. This year the new competitions were the Yoga Block and Tackle, Yoga Cartoon, Yoga Novelty, Yoga Fancy Dress and Team Yogasana Competition events.

Thiru Neela Gangadharan MLA congratulated the winners for showing that ‘Yoga is Skill in action’ and expressed his admiration for Meenakshi Devi Bhavanani for the wonderful work being done with the youth of the nation. He recalled the role of Swami Gitananda Giri in spreading Tamil culture through the medium of Yoga to the youth and children of Pondicherry. He advised all youth to practice Yoga to enable them to become model citizens of our motherland.

Kalaimamani Pulavar E Pattabiraman, Dr Nalini Devi of Gitananda Yogalayam, Spain and Mrs Deepa Muthaiya of Dean Foundation, Chennai spoke on the

occasion and felicitated the winners for their excellent performances.

Kalaimamani Smt Meenakshi Devi Bhavanani, (President PYA) and Sri C K Manoharun (Vice president PYA) participated in the valedictory function and congratulated all participants on their creative efforts.

Yogacharya Dr Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani, Gen Secretary, PYA presented the annual report highlighting the achievements of the Pondicherry Yogasana Association in the past year. Winners of the various competitions presented a cultural programme on the occasion.

1st PRIZE winners of various competitions were: U Parinitha (Yoga Elocution), S Samyuktha (Yoga drawing), R Monica (Yoga fancy dress), G Dayanidy (Yoga essay), NSK Roobhinisri (Yoga block and tackle), S Tamilsengolan (Yoga Cartoon drawing), M Thribhuvan

Vijay and S Kaviarasan (Yoga novelty).

The CREATIVE YOGA AWARD went to RV Krithiga and J Sangavi for their depiction of Yoga diet in fancy dress while

T Tamilarasan and Samiksha Kapoor bagged the ARTISTIC YOGA AWARD for their artistic abilities in Yogic dance and Yogic art. G Dayanidy

received the DYNAMIC YOGA AWARD for his spectacular demonstration of 20 asanas without letting his feet touch the floor.

The team of Subashini, Dhesh, SS Lothika, Tamilarasan, Sruti, Murugumanikkam and SS Monica won the Yoga Dumb Charade event. The team of Parinitha, Adash Srivatsa, Chandhini, Subramanian, Geethakala and Santhosh won the Yoga Team Quiz. Kaviarasan, Samiksha Kapoor, Yashritha, Mrithika, Krutikhaa, R Monica, Keerthana and A Anusha won the unique event of the Team Yogasana Competition where all members of the team had to contribute to the team victory by performing different Asanas against members of other teams.

Samyuktha (Yoga Fancy Dress as a rabbit doing Sasha Asana), R.V. Krithiga (Yoga Fancy Dress as Yogic diet), NSK Niranjan Kumar (Yoga Speech), G. Dayanidy (Yogasana Demonstration), Dhesh. M (Yogic Song in English), J. Sangavi (Yoga Speech), T. Mrithika (Yoga Fancy Dress as Pancha Kosha), R. Subashini (Yoga Fancy Dress as the Jnanendriyas), R. Monica (Yoga Fancy Dress as Lord Krishna), V. Roshini (Yoga Speech), L. Aparna Aparajitha (Yoga Speech), V. Amiritha (Yoga Fancy Dress as peacock doing the Mayurasana), S. Devasena

(Yoga Fancy Dress as Ardhanarishwara symbolizing Hatha Yoga), M. Balaji (Yoga Speech dressed up as AMMA), M. Thribhuvan Vijay and S. Kaviarasan (Yoga Comedy Skit on present day Yoga), T. Tamilarasan (Yogic Dance on Chakras and Kundalini) and the spectacular artistic team Yogasana Demonstration by the senior boys of Yognat.

The Swami Gitananda Award competitions 2003 were sponsored by: Dr Vanaja Vaidhyanathan’s Jyothi Eye Care, Creations Constructions, Ram Global Solutions and Advika Ads with support from ICYER and Yoganjali Natyalayam.

The competition was organized by the Executive Committee and Council Members of Pondicherry Yogasana Association and the staff, parents and student of Yoganjali Natyalayam and coordinated by Miss V Renukadevi and Miss D Lakshmi.
