Guest guest
Vannakkam Everybody, I'am Vimala from Pondicherry. A Student of Swami Gitananda and Our beloved Amma. On April 13 2004, the Tamil New years Day, a colleague of mine asked me a question, which led to a discussion, debate between us. The question was,why do u Tamilians have different New year. Actually our Ananda Sir, had given me two stories associated with Tamil New Year. 1.It was day,the dharshan was given my Shiva and Parvathi, on their day of marraige to Sage Agasthya. Sage Agasthya has given the 12 tamil months. 2.This day Bhramha is said to have created the world. Actually, New Year is celebrated by different regions in India, apart from Jan 1st. In Kannada and Telegu, it is called Ugadi. In Tamil- Tamil Puthaandu In Malayalam - Vishu Tamil New Year and Vishu fall on the same day, April 14 and April 13 (leap year). ugadi almost a month before. Generally Hindu festivals are predicted and calculated based on the movement of the sun, moon and stars. Hence a different calendar is followed. The discussion with my colleague started on this and led to many questions, as follows? Why is the Tamil Calendar diff, with respect to New year alone, but celebration of other festivals is alomost on the same days? How old is Tamil, I agree Sanskrit is the oldest and the base for all languages? What is the origin of Tamil? Which is the oldest scripture? Which scripture has all the divine stories recorded in. Does any scripture say that Hari or Vishnu is the supreme God, the creator and that Lord Shiva is nothing. Even Lord Bhramha is not the creator he says. i just cant believe this. I havent heard anybody say that Shiva is inferior to Vishnu. And I cannot accept that, cos i believe that there is only one God for all of us. We have only chosen diff paths and forms to see him. The Yoga which Krishna says in Gita by itself, is given by Lord Shiva. I would be happy to see ur comments on these questions. I'am a very new sibling in this Ocean of Knowledge. Please do correct me, if I have provided or said any thing thats not correct. Regards, Vimala
