PONDICHERRY SHINES AT THE OPEN NATIONAL

YOGASANA CHAMPIONSHIP HELD AT KANCHIPURAM

 

Members of the Pondicherry Yogasana Association did Pondicherry proud by winning numerous laurels at the recently concluded Open National Yogasana Championship conducted by the Sree Narayana Guru Sevashram at Kanchipuram under the auspices of the Indian Yoga Federation on 24th and 25th of July 2004.

More than 600 competitors from Tamil Nadu, Maharastra, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka and Pondicherry took part in this championship organised by Yogacharya D Sudhakar of Kanchipuram.

A team of 50 members of Pondicherry Yogasana Association belonging to Volontariat, Yoganjali Natyalayam, Gnana Jyothy Yoga Alayam and Sri Sivanantha Yogalayam took part in the championship under the guidance of Yogacharini Meenakshi Devi Bhavanani, president of the Pondicherry Yogasana Association.

Yogacharini Meenakshi Devi Bhavanani was also a chief guest at the championship along with Thiru Inba Tamizhan the Honourable Minister for Sports, Govt of Tamil Nadu, Dr Asana Andiappan the Vice President Indian Yoga Federation and the famous philanthropist Padmasri Nalli Kuppusami Chettiar.

Dr Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani was the special observer for the championship while juries from Pondicherry Yogasana Association included the team manager Shri C Shanmugam, Shri V Anbhazagan, Dr Madhusudhanan, Shri G Kumaran and Shri V Ravindran. Yogacharya Sharan was assistant manager of the team.

G Thulasiram of Volontariat won the Champion Of Champion Award for the 15 to 30 years male category while other members of the PYA won 41 prizes including 12 first, 5 second, 2 third, 9 fourth, 5 fifth and 8 sixth prizes. V Renukadevi and R Chandrasekar of Yoganjali Natyalayam stood out for their performance of winning numerous prizes in their respective categories. S Devasena of Yognat won a commendable first place in the highly competitive 6 to 9 years category having 65 competitors from all over the country.
