INCLUDE YOGA SPORT IN PONDICHERRY SPORT COUNCIL URGES PONDICHERRY YOGASANA ASSOCIATION®

A executive delegation of the Pondicherry Yogasana Association® under the guidance of the president Yogacharini Meenakshi Devi Bhavanani met the Honourable Minister for Education, Tourism and Sports, Shri K Lakshminarayanan recently and requested him to include Yoga Sport in the Pondicherry State Sport Council. Yoga sport is recognised as a sport in virtually all states of India and

Yogacharini Meenakshi Devi urged the Honourable Minister to ensure that Pondicherry should not be left behind in the Yoga Sport movement that is taking place all over the world. The honorable minister assured the delegation that he would take necessary steps to have Yoga Sport included in the Pondicherry State Sport Council of which he is the chairperson.

The Pondicherry Yogasana Association delegation included the general secretary Yogacharya Dr Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani and executive committee members Shri C Shanmugam, Shri V Anbhazagan, Dr Madhusudhanan, Smt Lalitha Shanmugam, Shri G Kumaran, Shri D Sendhil Kumar, Shri E Gajendiran and Smt Devasena Bhavanani. Dr Nalini Devi of the Gitananda Yogalayam in Spain also accompanied the delegation and explained the importance of yoga sport in the modern world.

It is noteworthy that Pondicherry Yogasana Association is recognised by the International Council for Yoga Sport and the International Yoga Federation, South America and is affiliated to the Indian Yoga Federation, Calcutta.

Founded in 1975 by Yogamaharishi Dr Swami Gitananda Giri, Pondicherry Yogasana Association has been in the forefront of the Yoga Sport movement ever since its inception and has conducted 18 state level Yogasana Championships and four Best Youth and Child Award competitions.
