Pondicherry Yogasana Association is the official body for Yoga Sport in Pondicherry and is recognised by the International Yoga Federation (South America), International Council of Yoga Sport (New Delhi) as well as the Asian Union of Yoga (New Delhi) and is affiliated to the Indian Yoga Federation (Kolkota). This championship has the blessings of all these governing bodies of Yoga sport as well as the Tamil Nadu State Yogasana Association. PYA was founded by Yogamaharishi Dr Swami Gitananda Giri Guru Maharaj in 1975 and has been active in conducting Yoga Sport events such as 18 Pondicherry State Level Yoga Sport Championships, four Swami Gitananda Best Youth and Child Award Competitions and the State Level ‘Himalaya’ Yoga Olympiad Competition in 2001. We have also assisted the Govt of Pondicherry, Tourism Dept in conducting the International Yoga Festival for the past 12 years. Yoga Sport is the best activity for youth of our beloved country as it entails virtually no infrastructure nor equipment that is required in other sports such as Cricket, Hockey etc. It acts as a catalyst in stimulating the youth to take up a holistic practice of Yoga that has been scientifically proved to be of great physical, mental and emotional benefit for the individual. Yoga is a preventive science and by our youth taking up its practice we can save great man power and money power of our nation that is otherwise pumped into the health (disease!) system. As the 19th Pondicherry State Yoga Sport Championship as well as the 1st Tamil Nadu State Invitation Yoga Sport Championship will be held on the 12th to 14th of November 2004, I request you to publicize this event in your Centre / Association / School / Institute and try to send the maximum number of participants from your side. I also request you to try and get maximum sponsorship for this championship in favor of “Pondicherry Yogasana Association”.
