ALL INDIA ASSOCIATION FOR EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH AND PONDICHERRY PSYCHOLOGY ASSOCIATION

6th National conference on INTEGRAL education

at Pondicherry, 8 – 9 January, 2005

Introduction

Sri Aurobindo’s teachings and sadhana not only gave a new life to the ancient Indian wisdom but also pointed out a path for humanity to work towards becoming a divine human race through adopting an Integral approach to life and learning. His teachings based on his belief in Human Unity are being practiced at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram and in Auroville. Located five miles north of Pondicherry, Auroville has been adopted by UNESCO as the first international city on Earth. Here, "the emphasis is on each man [or woman] discovering his [or her] own inner center behind their social, moral, cultural and racial heredity and appearances and actively living from that center, expressing it in outer work for the community." Many educational institutions and organizations throughout India are applying Sri Aurobindo's worldview in areas of education and human and social development. This National conference on "Integral Education” is one such initiative taken by the All India Association for Educational Research and Pondicherry Psychology Association. This conference brings together scholars and practitioners from across the globe with a common aim to discuss the variety of issues related to the relevance and application of Eastern and Western Psychological and Spiritual approaches to education in meeting the global challenges.
