PONDICHERRY TEAM TO ATTEND ALL INDIA INTER-UNIVERSITY YOGA CHAMPIONSHIP 2004 AT AMRITSAR, PUNJAB

 

Yogacharya Dr Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani, Cultural Yoga Ambassador of the International Yoga Federation and General Secretary Pondicherry Yogasana Association has congratulated the Pondicherry University on sending a team to the All India Inter-University Yoga Championship and praised the move as a right step in propagating Yoga Sport amongst youth of our Nation. Yoga Sport has become an important aspect of the modern Yoga scenario and it is heartening that the Pondicherry University has not lagged behind in this aspect.

A team of eight members from Pondicherry University will attend the All India Inter-University Yoga Championship 2004 at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjab from Nov 3rd to 6th - 2004.

The team consists of members form the Bharathidasan Government Women’s College, Acharya College, Indira Gandhi College and Pope John Paul College, Pondicherry.

Miss V. Renukadevi, Miss D. Reena Joseph, Miss K. S. Revathy, Miss Shyamala Devi, Miss Vithya Lakshmi, Miss Anandhi, Miss Shanmuga Priya, Miss Leena Mary have been selected by Dr N Govindarajulu, HOD Dept of Sports, Pondicherry University and will be accompanied by the team coach, Shri Murugesan, Physical Director, JIPMER.

The Director, Yoganjali Natyalayam Yogacharini Meenakshi Devi Bhavanani blessed the team members to bring name and fame to Pondicherry by proving themselves in this national event.

Yoga Sport is the best activity for youth of our beloved country as it entails virtually no infrastructure nor equipment that is required in other sports such as Cricket, Hockey etc. It acts as a catalyst in stimulating the youth to take up a holistic practice of Yoga that has been scientifically proved to be of great physical, mental and emotional benefit for the individual. Yoga is a preventive science and by our youth taking up its practice we can save great man power and money power of our nation that is otherwise pumped into the health (disease!) system.
