Bharathanatyam=============================================================This article has been sent to you by Dr. Panch. Ramalingam for kind information of Amma

======================================================Source: The Hindu (http://www.hinduonnet.com/mp/2002/10/16/stories/2002101600150400.htm)Tribute to Shivaji

In a rare gesture, two city-based young dancers pay a tribute to the late actor Sivaji Ganesan by choosing songs from his films to be set in Bharatanatyam format. LAVANYA AND Mrinalini, young Bharathanatyam dancers present a dance feature "Anda Naal Gnapakam" in tribute to the legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan at 7 p.m. on October 18 at Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan in Mylapore. They will present songs from his films in Bharathanatyam format. In 1991, when sisters Lavanya and Mrinalini were ready for their Bharathanatyam arangetram, they wanted none other than the great actor Sivaji Ganesan to preside over the function. The young girls and their parents were great fans of his. "We did not know him at all but we still dared to approach him. He not only met us but also readily agreed to be the chief guest at our arangetram," the two girls gush about Sivaji. Sivaji Ganesan, the doyen of Indian cinema and artist consummate stands out like a colossus in terms of volume, variety and performance. Sivaji, on his admission is a fine example of the dictum that practice makes perfect. "As ardent fans of his, we have been overwhelmed by his incredible talent, grasp of characterisation, mobility of expression, inimitable rendering of dialogues and charisma and it was such an honour, blessing and dream come true to have had him as the chief guest at our arrangetram". Ten years later, the two girls decided to pay a tribute to him through their art form, Bharathanatyam. As disciples of the Dhananjayans and Radhika Shurajit, the two girls have been appreciated for their synchronisation, sparkling rhythm and graceful gestures with a sense of cohesiveness, which unifies these various elements harmoniously whenever they are on stage. They have taken part in many of the dance dramas of the Dhananjayans' `Bharatha Kalanjali' and of Radhika Shurajit's Trayee school of dance besides their duo performances all over India and abroad. They have also been conducting lecture-demonstrations and workshops on dance in college campuses. "We have chosen songs from his films which have a flair for classical dance and scope for creative elaboration on stage. We have added our own sancharis for some lines. Radhika Shurajit has choreographed these pieces for us." Lavanya is an architect by training and Mrinalini an interior designer. They say they take equal pride, interest and have deep involvement in their professions! of dance, interior decoration and architecture. "The two professions complement one another just as we two complement one another on stage and one feeds from the other aesthetically", say the sisters together.
