BEST YOUTH AND BEST CHILD AWARDS-2004

 

PRESS RELEASE

PONDICHERRY YOGASANA ASSOCIATION is organizing the SWAMI GITANANDA BEST YOUTH and BEST CHILD AWARDS 2004 for the Youth and Children of Pondicherry in December 2004 and January 2005 at YOGANJALI NATYALAYAM, 25, 2nd Cross, Iyyanar Nagar, Pondicherry 13.

This is the Fifth year that this competition is being conducted in Pondicherry. The Awardees in the last four years are Miss D Lakshmi (2000), Miss N Ramya (2001), Miss V Renuka Devi (2002) and Mr. S Tamilsengolan (2003). Winners of the Best Child Awards in the last two years are Miss Desh M (2002) and Miss R Subhashini (2003).

Pondicherry Youth in the age group 13 to 22 years are eligible to participate in the Best Youth Award competition that will consist of Team Yogasanas, Team Yoga Quiz and Team Yoga Dumb Charade competitions in addition to the individual based Yoga Creative Writing, Artistic Yoga Display, Yoga Novelty, Yoga Designing and Yoga Block and Tackle competitions. The competitor who wins maximum points overall will receive the SWAMI GITANANDA BEST YOUTH AWARD 2004.

 

Pondicherry Children below 13 years are eligible to participate in the Best Child Award competition that will consist of a Team Yogasana Competition, Yoga Quiz and Yoga Dumb Charade Team competitions in addition to the individual based Yoga Elocution, Yoga Fancy Dress, Artistic Skill and Yoga Art competitions. The competitor who wins maximum points overall will receive the SWAMI GITANANDA BEST CHILD AWARD 2004.

All competitions will be held at YOGANJALI NATYALAYAM, 25 Second Cross, Iyyanar Nagar, Pondicherry-13. Tel: 2241561.

Prizes will be distributed to winners in January 2005 at a special function with prominent dignitaries. All participants will be given participation certificates and mementos from the PYA. Winners will receive honour certificates and prizes.

Last date for receipt of filled up application is 13th December ‘04.

RULES

 

· LAST DATE for receipt of filled up applications is 13th December 2004.

· Age must be between 13 and 22 years for Best Youth and must be below 13 years for Best Child.

· Age will be calculated as on January 1st 2005. Competitors must furnish proper proof of age at the time of submitting filled up application form.

· Entry fee is Rs 50 per individual event for current members of the Pondicherry Yogasana Association and Rs 75 per individual event for non-PYA members.

· Entry fee for participation in all three team events together is Rs 100 per competitor for current members of the Pondicherry Yogasana Association and Rs 150 per competitor for non-PYA members. (Competitors must participate in all team events and will be in the same team for all events).

· Competitors may compete in as many events as they wish but must mention the same in the application form submitted before 13th December 2004

· No spot joining in events will be allowed under any circumstances

· Medium of exposition will be English and Tamil.

· In event of a tie, the winner will be decided by the number of higher placements in all the events and if there is still a tie then the draw of lots will decide the winner.

· There will be ONLY THREE PRIZES in all events and in event of a tie, the winner will be decided by draw of lots.

· The POINTS awarded to the competitors for the Swami Gitananda Best Youth and Child Award will be as follows;

INDIVIDUAL EVENTS:

1st place - 100 points 2nd place - 75 points

3rd place - 50 points 4th place - 40 points

5th place - 30 points 6th place - 20 points

 

TEAM EVENTS:

1st place - 60 points 2nd place - 50 points

3rd place - 40 points 4th place - 30 points

5th place - 20 points 6th place - 10 points

 

· If a competitor is absent at the time of their event, they will be considered as having given walkover.

· The Yoga Quiz, Dumb Charades and Team Yogasana Competition will be between teams of five members (preferably from the same institution).

· Teams must be submitted before 13th December 2004.

· The creative writing, fancy dress, block and tackle, novelty, designing, artistic skill, elocution and art competitions will be individual based.

· Entry fee once paid and receipted will not be refunded under any circumstances.

· All decisions of the judges and organizers are final.

COMPETITIONS FOR

SWAMI GITANANDA BEST YOUTH AWARD-2004

 

 

YOGA DESIGNING

Individual based competition. Time limit is 1 hour. Any Yoga related design should be created using material (clay, Kolam powder, flowers etc) of the competitors choice. Competitor must bring their own materials and create the design on the spot.

 

 

BLOCK AND TACKLE

Individual based competition. Time limit is 2 minute. Medium can be either English or Tamil. Competitors have to both support (when told to ‘block’) and oppose (when told to ‘tackle’) the topic given on the spot.

 

 

YOGA NOVELTY

Individual based competition. Time limit is 10 minutes. Medium can be either English or Tamil. Must be related to Yoga directly.

 

 

YOGA CREATIVE WRITING

Individual based competition. Time limit is 1 hour. Medium can be either English or Tamil. Topic will be announced only 1 hour before the competition. Competitor are advised to use their imagination to the maximum in their writing as points will be given based mainly on the level of creativity displayed.

 

 

YOGA ARTISTIC TEAM SHOW

Team of two competitors should present an artistic and pleasing display of Yogasanas that must be choreographed to classical or light classical instrumental music. Film songs aren’t allowed. Chants tapes are allowed. Time limit per team is 3 minutes. Points will be given based on creativity, synchronicity and grace of presentation.

YOGA FANCY DRESS COMPETITION

Individual based competition. Time limit is 2 minutes. Medium can be either English or Tamil. Must be related to Yoga directly.

 

 

ARTISTIC SKILL

Individual based competition. Time limit is 5 minutes. Competitor should display their skill in any of the fine arts such as vocal or instrumental music, dance, mime, etc.

 

 

YOGA ELOCUTION

Individual based competition. Time limit is 5 minutes. Medium can be either English or Tamil. The competitor can choose any one topic from the following list:

 

 

Yoga Sport competitions

Yoga is fun

Animal and bird poses in Yoga

Why I want to be a Yogi/ Yogini

Why I learn Yoga

 

 

YOGA ART

Individual based competition. Time limit is 1 hour. Competitor may draw any topic of their choice in any form of art (pencil, painting, crayons etc) and should bring their own materials to the venue.

 

 

COMMON COMPETITIONS

(Each teams must have at least two members from the child and two from the youth categories)

 

 

YOGA DUMB CHARADES

Team based competition with 5 members in each team. Only miming is allowed and no words or other vocal signals can be used. All members must act at least once in the event.

 

 

TEAM YOGASANA COMPETITION

Team based competition with 5 members in each team performing 10 asanas. Each member will have to perform the Asanas drawn by lots from 50 given Asanas twice in the competition.

 

 

YOGA TEAM QUIZ

Team based competition with 5 members in each team. Medium can be either English or Tamil.
