Guest guest
A Description of the Human Mind (Taken from the Yoga Vashishta) The Mind is a poison-tree that is deep-rooted in the ground, viz., the physical body. Expectations are the branches; fancies, its glittering leaves; desires its buds, while worries are its flowers. Birth, death and misery are the bitter fruits. Only with the axe of self-enquiry can one cut the tree. Mind is a wild elephant roaming at will on the slopes of the senses. Hatred and jealousy are its inflamed eyes. Attachment and anger are its tusks. Mind can be likened to a crow that constantly forages about the base pleasures. Harsh speech and evil deeds are the two segments of its beak. Mind is like a goblin with its consort – worldly desires – and is perched on the tree branch of ignorance. Mind is similar to a serpent, worry constituting the venom. Mind is a vulture (inhabiting the graveyard, that is the physical body). Mind is a dark cloud (with misery as its downpour). Mind is a net woven out of the ropes of thoughts and desires. Mind is a python lying in wait with open jaws for the deluded soul to come its way. When self-enquiry as the flaming torch is in hand the reptile will not be able to do any harm. ALL THESE “ENEMIES” CAN BE SEEN AND HENCE, OVERCOME WITH THE TORCH LIGHT OF VICHARA (SELF-ENQUIRY) – ALSO CALLED SWADHYAYA (SELF STUDY – DETACHED OBSERVATION OF SELF) Yogacharya Dr.Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani Chairman : Yoganjali Natyalayam and ICYER 25,2nd Cross,Iyyanar Nagar, Pondicherry-605 013 Tel: 0413 - 2622902 / 0413 -2241561 Website: www.icyer.com www.geocities.com/yognat2001/i_am_here Mail - Easier than ever with enhanced search.
