Guest guest
A famous Hindu proverb states “Father, Mother, Guru and Guests are God” The esoteric, rather than literal meaning is very beautiful and replete with profound meaning. “Father” is our mind, “Mother” is our body and they indeed are manifestations of God (the eternal cosmic processes of Generation, Order and Dissolution) and it is our responsibility to maintain the psychosomatic balance between these twin poles of our being. “Guru” (dispeller of darkness) is the discovery of our Swadharma (true purpose in life) and thus learn the lessons that allow us to harmoniously negotiate the ocean of life. “Guests”” are opportunities, which, like visitors, often come unannounced, and require viveka or discernment to grasp.
