Guest guest
Dear All, My name is Shilpa. My association with the group members is nearly a year long but only as a receiver. Thanks to Dr. Ananda who motivated me to communicate with you all to share my attempt at making Yoga more interesting with children. Below is the letter I sent to Amma with the details of the Yoga exhibition titled, 'The Yoga Week'. Dear Amma, The visit to Pondicherry revived all the creativity hidden deep within me. In 1987 I had conducted a whole exhibition on children and Yoga which was quite liked by all. The Times of India group journalist had covered it and published my interview related to it. Somehow I did not think of doing any such exhibition again in these last four years since I have joined this current school where I teach Yoga. I would do a lot of skits and demonstrations but not a full fledged exhibition. After seeing the devotion with which you and Dr. Ananda handled the children the flame of creativity was literally rekindled. I was as if on fire. Without any conscious attempts or plan ideas started flowing in rather out. I have literally eaten, drunk and slept my Yoga exhibition where 300 plus children participated. It was titled, “The Yoga Week”. 120 children from the primary section of age 8 and 9 put up the exhibition on Yoga and nature. How different beings in nature are a source of a lot of asanas. The elder lot age 13 put up the exhibition on The Eight Fold Path Of Yoga. We had proper stalls where the visitors were explained the meaning of these eight steps through songs, poems, charts, games and dialogues by these youngsters. The children of the age group 10, 11 and 12 prepared sattvik recipes, dishes and sold the same in the school canteen of an International School. All the dishes were sold out in 15 minutes flat and we collected an amount of Rs. 5,000 which we are donating to an Old Age Home in our area. I am attaching some of the photographs here. Yours in Yoga, Shilpa SORRY! Somehow the mail keeps bouncing back when I attach the photos. So I will mail them later.
