NATIONAL YOGA WEEK 2007 Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, New Delhi organised the NATIONAL YOGA WEEK 2007 from 12th to 16th March 2007. The event was inaugurated by the Minister of State for Health in Govt of India

Smt Panabaka Lakshmi in the presence of more than 300 Yoga experts and enthusiasts from all over the country. The Yoga Week 2007 consisted of a National Seminar on Role of Yoga in Community Health, A national conference on Yoga and Health Care and various Skill Building Workshops on various topics. Yogacharya Dr Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani, Chairman ICYER, Pondicherry was one of the Invited Guests of Honour for the Yoga Week 2007. He delivered a keynote address on “Meeting points of Yoga and Modern Medicine”. He also delivered an invited talk on “Yoga for

Children” and was master of ceremonies at the inaugural function. Dr Ananda was also an Invited Member at the Consultative Meeting held to discuss the Accreditation of Yoga Institutes and Courses that was held simultaneously during the Yoga Week 2007. Numerous premier Yoga institutes, ashrams and centres from all over India took part in the Yoga Week that had key note addresses, invited talks and satang by international and national Yoga luminaries such as Dr HR Nagendra (VC of sVYASA, Bangalore), Dr HR Nagarathna (Dean of sVYASA, Bangalore), Dr Krishna Bhatt (Head, Dept of Yoga, Mangalore University), Dr Venkata Reddi (Retd Director, Vemana Institute, Andhra radish), Padmashri Bharat Bhushan, Swami Dharmananda, Swami Ananta Bharathi and Swami Vidyananda of Delhi Yoga Ashrams, Dr AK Ghosh (Swami Mangalteertham of Bihar), Dr

Samprasad Vinod of Pune, Dr BT Chidananda Murthy (Director CCRYN), Dr D R Vaze of Kaivalyadhama Yoga Therapy hopsiatal, Dr Babu Joseph (Director NIN, Pune), Dr RS Bhogal (Principal-Kaivalyadhama), Dr Arpan Bhatt of Gujarat University, Dr Rita Bhalla of Himachal University, Dr KV Naveen of sVYASA, Shri SK Jindel (the Nauli-man of Jaipur) and Swami Lai Maharaj of Delhi. Eminent Yoga scientists such as Dr MV Bhole (Retd Director of Research at Kaivalyadhama), Dr Madanmohan (JIPMER, Pondicherry), Dr Shirley Telles (sVYASA), Dr KK Deepak (AIIMS), Dr CS Pandav (AIIMS) and Dr US Ray (DIPAS) also delivered invited talks and lectures at the Yoga Week. The Yoga week was aimed at creating mass awareness for health, harmony and happiness for all through Yoga and was organised by the MGNIY under the Dept of AYUSH in the Central Government’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. MGNIY is headed by the dynamic Dr Ishwar Basavaraddi who is in a dynamic manner developing all aspects of the institute that is involved in coordinating Yoga programmes for education, therapy and research. MGNIY is also involved in the preparation of the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) for Yoga to preserve the traditional Yoga knowledge and prevent misappropriation it. It is also coordinating the efforts to prepare a system for the accreditation of Yoga institutes and courses in the country in consultation with eminent Yoga experts from all over the country. Yogacharya Dr Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani also had discussions with numerous Yoga experts who were attending the conference from SVYASA, Kaivalyadhama, Bihar School of Yoga, Yoga Sadhana Kendra, Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy, National Institute of Naturopathy, and the heads of the Yoga departments at various universities such as Mangalore, Bhopal, Haryana, Jabalpur, Haridwar, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat.
