GHERANDA SAMHITA Original in Sanskrit & English - now translated to Tamil. By Yogachemmal Smt. Meena Ramanathan, Pondicherry. The essence of Gheranda Samhita, ( the traditional Yogic Literature from ancient times) is “The human frame is mere earthenware,

Bake it with the flame of Yoga-fire”. The critical edition of this Original text has been taken from 14 manuscripts and 5 printed texts. This book is in the form of a dialogue between Gheranda, the preceptor and Chandakapali, the disciple. The Yoga discussed here is called ‘Ghatasthayoga’ , i.e. Yoga based on the approach through the body. The Hathayogic practices explained in this book are - 21 Kriyas, 32 Asanas, 25 Mudras, 5 Prathyahara, 10 Pranayamas, 5 Dhyanas and 6 Samadhis. Knowing the value of this book, Smt. Meena Ramanathan, decided to translate this Gheranda Samhita into Tamil for the benefit of

many Yoga Learners. She has transliterated the Sanskrit/English Slokas or Verses into Tamil and translated the contents/explanations in a simple manner for creating awareness among students and others. After strenuous effort taken by her, the book has finally come out well - Printed and Published by KAIVALYADHAMA, LONAVALA, PUNE, a premier Yoga Institute and released during the International Conference held there. Before Publishing, the Tamil Script was thoroughly reviewed by Dr. Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani. As per his

valid suggestions, Smt. Meena Ramanathan transliterated the Sanskrit Verses also which made the whole effort a more complete one. This would not have been possible without Dr. Ananda’s continued support, encouragement and guidance. The contents of the Tamil Gheranda Samhita Book are: DEALS WITH LESSON 1 - PRATHAMOPADESH 21 SHATKRIYAS LESSON 2 - DWITHIYOPADESH 32 ASANAS LESSON 3 - TRITHIYOPADESH 25 MUDRAS LESSON 4 - CHATHUROPADESH 5 PRATHYAHARA LESSON 5 - PANCHAMOPADESH 10 PRANAYAMAS LESSON 6 - SASHTHOPADESH 3 DHYANAS LESSON 7 - SAPTAMOPADESH 6

SAMADHIS IT ALSO CONSISTS OF PHOTOS OF VARIOUS YOGIC PRACTICES. Hope this book is a useful guide for the benefit of Yoga Learners. * * * * * * * Yogacharya Dr.Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani Chairman : Yoganjali Natyalayam and ICYER Hon General Secretary, Pondicherry Yogasana
