Guest guest Posted February 20, 2009 Report Share Posted February 20, 2009 NATIONAL YOGA WEEK 2009 MASS YOGA AWARENESS PROGRAMME IN SCHOOLS OF PONDICHERRY The MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE is sponsoring the NATIONAL YOGA WEEK 2009 from the 16th to 22nd of February 2009 and Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, New Delhi has organised a mass awareness programme for Health, Happiness and Harmony through Yoga with the theme of “Role of Yoga in School Healthâ€. As part of the National Yoga Week, a MASS YOGA AWARENESS PROGRAMME is being conducted in schools all over the country through the active participation of leading and eminent Yoga Institutes who have come together under the banner of the INDIAN YOGA ASSOCIATION, a self regulatory body for yoga sponsored by the Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The ADVANCED CENTRE FOR YOGA THERAPY, EDUCATION AND RESERACH (ACYTER), JIPMER is organizing the Mass Yoga Awareness Programme in Pondicherry with the cooperation the Education Department, Government Of Pondicherry. Inaugural ceremony for the Yoga Week in Pondicherry was held on 16th February at Kendriya Vidyalaya, JIPMER on 16th February 2009 and the valedictory function will be held at the Indira Nagar Government School on 21st February. Yoga Camps of 1 ½ hours duration everyday on the theme of the NYW are being conducted in 50 government and private schools of Pondicherry by nearly 30 Yoga teachers under the direction of Prof Dr MADANMOHAN, Programme Director ACYTER and Diector Professor, Dept of Physiology, JIPMER and coordinated by Mrs. Meena Ramanathan, Coordinator Yoga courses PUCC. As per the request of the MDNIY, ICYER and Pondicherry Yogasana Association are extending active cooperation for the conduct of the Yoga Classes. More than 10,000 students will be sensitized to the importance of Yoga for school health during this programme. Yoga is the best means to improve the psychosomatic health in everyone, especially children. The regular practice enhances the personality in children, improves concentration and memory power, helps endure stressful situation during exams, increases their immunity and improves overall health. The main objective of the programme is to increase the awareness about the benefits of Yoga among the children.
