Rajas vs. Tamas

“Is rajas (restlessness) better than tamas (laziness)? Some people are just lazy and don’t want to do anything. They say, ‘Well, I am very quiet; I am at peace, so why should you want me to practice Yoga and japa and this and that? ’ But, they are not at peace. They are dull, sleepy and incapable of doing even some mischief. Better to be mischievous, than to be dull. That is why people who are restless or mischievous, who do something—whether good or bad— are better off than people who are just sleepy. When they do mischief and make mistakes, they will get the lessons sooner and they will rise further. So a mischievous person is better than a dull, sluggish person.

“God bless you. OM Shanti, Shanti, Shanti.â€

Namastey All,

re. Rajas v. Tamas.

Yes i think that even a mischievous person has risen above Tamas.

It takes energy to move from tamas..one cannot jump from tamas to Sattwa without moving thru rajas. I think that rajas is the fire , the movement , the passion the vehicle that can take us to sattwa from tamas. It is the link between yin and yang ..it is the energy which moves between the pairs of opposites. Inertia can only create stagnation.
