Guest guest
Hello all. I need some advice. Last year I discovered the joy of Ashtanga Yoga. Just as I was really getting into it, and progressing, I became very sick. I was diagnosed with costochondritis. Its an inflamation in your ribs. The Doctor said that yoga would not cause this, however I was unable to practice for almost a year now. My first concern is that the Doctor was not fully aware of what yoga really is, let alone Ashtanga Yoga, second is I am a little afraid to start and get sick again but more so I am having a hard time motivating myself. I had only been practicing a few months when I got sick, but I had never felt so good before that! Any advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
I used to have osteochondritis REALLY badly - particularly at the points where the ribs join the sternmum, and the ribs join the spine. It would debilitate me for days - a bad attack would last tree or four weeks - and I'd have to take to my bed sometimes. And have to take lotsof heavy painkillers. That was before I 'found' yoga. The osteochindritis was brought on by stress - I would often get an attack two or three days after a stressful event, and it would last two or three weeks. So, first thing to to remove the stress from your life if you can. And do LOTS of downward dog - that was the one asana that really helped. Of course all the asanas help, and Ashtanga has been great for it, but if you could start with five minutes of downdog every day, it should help a lot. But osteochondritis is not something that clears up overnight. It took about 10 years fro my first to last attack, and even now, when things get sticky, I can feel it coming in my ribs. Movement helps, and ashtanga is great for balancing and rebalancing your body. Start again and don't stop! Love, Annie ashtangayoga , " N " <nsamuels23 wrote: > > Hello all. I need some advice.
