hi everyone!

i'm quite new to ashtanga yoga, and i'm just wondering how often and where you

guys practice. I've already gone to several yoga classes, and this time i want

to practice at home especially since the yoga classes at our place are quite

costly. I don't feel motivated if i do it alone, though. Do you have any

suggestions on how i can jumpstart a habit at home? Thanks a lot.

Namaste.

Hi! Kim

I do agree that the cost can at times be a financial

burden. However, it is important to go to a class from

time to time for clarification of the way of yoga or

things that one thought is right all the time.

Yoga is also a way of life. What you are doing now is

also yoga. Let's keep it to postures. One may practice

alone or in a class or get some friends/family

together. Think of the benefits through practice. So,

why let it pass by you when it is known to be

beneficial ?

Keep on practising, focus on both mentally and

physically no matter how trivial. It will come to you

one day.

Hi Kim,

I have been practicing consistently now for 1 year and primarily

practise on my own due to financial and time constraints with work

and family. I find it is also been difficult to develop self-

discipline to stay motivated and on track. So many mornings it has

been a battle just to get started. I've found it mainly to be a

mental hurdle to get passed and once I'm well into the Sun

Salutations I'm good unless I'm stressed out about how much time I

have or something else that is wearing me down mentally. I don't

struggle through my practise as in the beginning worrying about time

and progress. So in that respect, doing Ashtanga Yoga has helped me

to learn new ways to cope with challenges and to change my way of

thinking!

I started back with yoga due to anxiety and stress so my practise is

very important to me. My focus is to just dedicate the time and

then follow through while letting my practise be what it is for that

day of my life.

Namaste,

Kenny G.

Hey! Kate, yoga is not a strict regime. Our body

changes from time to time, hence we need to understand

and cater to our mental or physical circumstances as

they change. A practitioner should cater their

practice accordingly.

Also, yoga is actually practised every second

depedning on how one termed yoga as. If it is only

asana (posture), it can be practised any time that is

convenient with the importance of sufficient rest

before and after practise.

Try looking at DVD or video or books or chat with

other practitioners for motivation. A book entitled,

Heart of Yoga by TKV Krishnamacharya (son of T.

Krishnamacharya, guru to Sri K Pattabhi Jois) provides

an execellent source of understanding on yoga

practises - can be found on major book shops or online

like Amazon.

Mental block can be another factor but once the

benefit is realised, an automatic desire to practise

shall prevail.

Nameste,

Jason

-Yoga is not just asana. Anyone that limits yoga to bodily improvement

misses the whole point of this ancient system. It is about union with the

divine, burning away the ego to be able to accept the fact that you and god and

everyone and everything are one. That there is no division between this and

that, here and then. If you practice yoga with the sole intent to physically

improve you only feed the ego and the delusion of duality. This is why yoga can

and should be practiced all the time.

Ashtanga designed to get rid of an anxiety. If y still have an anxiety,

try higher level of assanas. If it does not work, ashtanga is not for

you. In this case, y can use Tao/dao technologies. For example, dry

Tibetan massages Tai Chi, Tsi Gun, etc.
