Guest guest
Hi Group, I'm interested if anyone else experiences mental block, actual mental blocks in the forehead when they are wanting to meditate and how you go about clearing the pressure. I have tried relaxing the face. Jaw, tongue to palette, drawing the eyes toward the center of the forehead or to the nose. Focusing on the breathe and focusing on a point outside of the body. Any suggestions? " A mind that is not content cannot concentrate. The yogi feels the lack of nothingness and so he is naturally content. Contentment gives bliss unsurpassed to the yogi " Satya and Namaste, Erica
Guest guest
Try to accept it and observe the sensation objectively- i.e. give it space rather than resist it with negativity. Turning the eyes inwards actually increases tension, yogis have found that a general state of tension can cause a pull on the eyeballs, directing them inwards toward the nose, and that the body can be relaxed by consciously turning the eyes toward the outer corners instead. So if anything, try to relax your eyes away from each other and down. Mental blocks as you describe often result from over activity of the Ajna chakra (from excessive thinking and trying to control events to bend to one's will) and the remedy in meditation is to surrender to the sensation and have the patience for this imbalance to correct itself. The method we use to accomplish this is acceptance of the blockage through maintaining an attitude of choiceless observation of the reality of what is manifesting from moment to moment. This surrender to what 'is' will help calm down excessive anja energy and bring harmony back to the energetic network of the body/mind. peace. All new Mail Get news delivered. Guest guest
Erica, just to share my meditation experience. I was very bothered at beginning that my mind slip away so easily and randomly, and so often. Until one day I learned that our mind is like that. It is how it functions. If first we just learn to be with it, not to control it, just be more aware with the understanding of our mind and allow it to be, it seems gets much settled. there is the Dhamma Talks by Thanissaro Bhikkhu, helps me allots to understand more about the meditation, there are free and you can take some topics to listen. Thanissaro Bhikkhu has a very smooth, calming voice, i found it calms me down as well, funny enough. here is the link: http://www.dhammatalks.org/ good luck Erica, Meditation is a great thing. Keeping on it. best, tian
Guest guest
yes, i occassional have blocks in my meditation practice, i'm human. i've studied many yoga traditions including attending several ashtanga teacher trainings and right now have become very excited in my studies with erich schiffman. the majority of his teachings are based on meditation and he has excellent suggestions for the days we feel " blocked " .... first that it's okay and this is part of our learning.. then, some days feeling like we have other things we have to do on our minds, he suggests in those situations to go do them, then come back to meditate. trying different places, different seatings... there's also a " back door method " which you count backwards from 50. the inhale being 49, exhale 48, inhale 47 etc. until you get to 20...then only count the exhale, exhale, 20, inhale, exhale 19 and so on. i've used this method and have had days that i've altered it by getting to zero, still feeling " off " , so i start from the beginning again. some days it's nice to wake up, put your back to the head board and meditate before the mind takes off. some days it's nice to practice asana then sit. some days try laying down or a walking meditation. another way is to think of a mantra, the word peace usually works for me, i try to feel what the word means to me. instead of thinking of it... knowing that while you're meditating, so is someone else somewhere in the world... maybe try candle gazing...let me know if you don't know how to do it.... in my life and studies sometimes it's nice to break the rules and traditions we've learned in yoga to truly practice yoga.....good luck. gayle - gali831 ashtangayoga Saturday, September 29, 2007 5:09 PM ashtanga yoga Mental blocks while trying to meditate Hi Group, I'm interested if anyone else experiences mental block, actual mental blocks in the forehead when they are wanting to meditate and how you go about clearing the pressure.
