Guest guest
Namaste, I believe that each day practice is a new practice for our body and mind. So for jumping back you must know the goal and try to reach it in every jump. That goal of jumping back is handstand, adho mukha vrksasana, and bending the elbows we going straight down (not exactly straight little forward and down, but don't care for it now) to chaturanga. So keep this in your mind and start to thing. At first you must have good moola bhanda and uddiyana. Your breath traditionally for the jump back is exhalation and I think is good this in the beginning, but when you do it at home or if you like to search in your practice, try with inhalation too. Then the body position. Palms in the same length of the arms, thumb index finger and then little wide open and all the palm to the floor. Shoulders little forward than your wrists, you look forward, as forward and up you can. Shoulders far from your ears and JUMP!!! Where is the weight of your body? All on your hands, and you must feel it like for a second you are all on your hands. Remember your goal, Handstand, so the Jump isn't back! Jump is up and back. So in the beginning jump back and try to keep more and more your weight on your hands. When you do it try latter, jump with bending knees up, stay (remember what we tell before how must be the body) and then extend your legs and go back. When you going down, your elbows must be closely to your body so to keep the weight of it. It's very helpful if you see lot of times and study how masters of Ashtanga jumping back. Try to see, like to try to discover in the movement a secret and you ll discover at the end it, it will be your secret for YOURS jump. In Ashtanga everybody is different in his/her practice and this is magical!!! Keep going. Practice Practice, Practice. In sun salutation A and B, may i ask for any suggestion or technique on how i can jump back to plank position? My teacher before said that the right way is to land lightly on my mat (like a feather), and i get embarassed that i make a sort of " huge bang " everytime i jump back. Thanks. I'm learning so much about astanga yoga from this , and am beginning to see how wonderful it is. -kim PS sophie, thanks so much for the book that you recommended. <>
