Guest guest
I just started taking Ashtanga classes this month,I'm so into it now, that i what to meet up with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois at his U.S. Tour in March " 08 " .Because one reason is he is not here to often, and second reason is i could never afford to travel to India for any amount of time.So my question is to you??By that time in March,i only will have been studying Ashtanga for almost six months(i have taken Yoga off & on,but pretty much a beginner still).-So can i attend Sri K. Pattabhi Jois classes,or will it be embarassing for me??? I know i'll stick out!! Your Thoughts??????????????????????????????? Thank's..... Kind Regards, Mike
Guest guest
dear Mike, i had similar thoughts the first time i went to see John Scott. i too was only a beginner and i thought maybe my practice was not good enough to attend a class taught from someone of this stature. i did however go and the first words out of his mouth was: " don't show me your practice, do your practice " so i closed my thoughts off and pretended to be back in my hometown shala - trying to concentrate on my breath and having a light practice. these words i''ve carried all around the world as i've traveled and practiced (yes, even to Mysore where you have a full range of practitioners from beginners to acrobatic experts). what i'm saying is that i would encourage you to go and enjoy yourself. remember, the only thing that counts when your practicing is what is going on on your mat, not anyone else's. enjoy and peace, david www.davidbyck.com On Nov 21, 2007 12:57 AM, mikes.thaiyoga <dojostudio_99 wrote: > I just started taking Ashtanga classes this month,I'm so into it > now, that i what to meet up > with Sri K. Guest guest
Hi Mike If you have the opportunity to travel to the Florida Keys when Guruji and the family is there, by all means go and don't worry about your level. They love new students. The format of Guruji and the family's visit of two weeks when they were last in San Francisco was: first week two slots of led primary led classes (at 6:00 am and at 9:00am - I forget the exact times). Second week: one slot of primary led class, another slot of second series led class. I went to the site and read the program for Florida, and it is two weeks of Primary Series practice, so you would be fine. If you're worrying about " sticking out " then your focus is not on your breadth or on your dristhe. Namaste Arturo
Guest guest
Mike, I am sure that Guruji, Pattabhi Jois is happy to see or let anyone attend his class if one is willing to learn from him with a sincere heart. It has always been his teacher saying that the student comes first. It is one who makes himself uncomfortable due to humility and the surrounding people. Guruji is very old now. Go for it. A chance of a lifeime. Nameste Jason Jason ______________________________\ ____ Never miss a thing. Guest guest
Hi David, I don't even know who John Scott is, but I love those words, " Don't show me your practise, do your practise. " It epitomises what I believe as a pracitioner and a teacher of yoga. Much of yoga has more to do with the comfort level with oneself - with one's limitations, shortcomings, aspirations, strengths and triumphs - the whole experience. That is where the beauty can be found and exprienced. Thanks for your advice, Katherine
