Guest guest
Hi, I am a 33 and have practiced ashtanga yoga for about 8 years on and off... When i first took it up, i was still a smoker, and very unfit, and i went on to practice 6.30am classes, 45 mins away 3 or 4 times a week, plus farm work in the end, i think it was in part the best time of my life, esp. for fitness... but at the same time i was very self punishing for not being as good as the others at it and was determined and even so, i lacked the discipline to practice nearly every day and constantly beat myself up over it, i was a mess of insecurities around my strenght, flexibility and practice. I have paranoid schizophrenia, and when i am in hospital long term i have this wonderful system of yoga to go back to, and twice, for months i have done tons of ashtanga, doing the best yoga of my life, but also on one occasion, injuring my back, and not being able to practice again for 2 years!! I have a lot of emotion invested in starting practice again when i get back from my holiday in Switzerland, (10 days), and i'm thinking: will i be too sedated,? (it's a struggle with these meds), will i be able to get up that early? will i be safe driving to yoga classes at night? will i be too lazy to self practice? should i get a dvd of ashtanga,? (something i've never done before), will i lose weight? (much needed) will i keep it up? will i be embarassed about the shape i'm in? I am quite capable of ruining all the in between times of not practicing ashtanga with this stuff, so it's not a small ammount of worry... even just over what a struggle it is to get to classes can anyone recommend a dvd? with guruji? or his son? does that one include the short form i have just discovered, or does it only cover the postures in full, with a jump back between each side in the seated postures. Sorry it's been a long winded one, my eventual aim is to have safe and measured, and consistant enjoyable practice, then i won't have to start from scratch every time i go into hospital and injure myself again... any responses welcome Warm Wishes and Take Care Namaste greentigress
Guest guest
One of the limbs in Ashtanga is not hurting others and oneself , yes even in asana practise. Find a really good teacher to guide you. Have a safe practise and good luck. Jason ______________________________\ ____ Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Hi there, I can highly recommend the Primary Series DVD from It's Yoga in San Francisco. It's a great practice that encourages you to really go within and practice at your own level. You can buy it from them online at itsyoga.net Most of all, love yourself and know that whatever decision you are making in the moment is the right decision. Constantly look toward self-improvement while simultaneously knowing that you are perfect just the way you are in this very moment. I also recommend to practice some simple pranayama techniques and spend a good amount of time in meditation so that the practice isn't all about body strength and flexibility. I hope this helps. much love to you! namaste, Sarah ashtangayoga , " red_lady_designs " <red_lady_designs wrote: > > Hi, > > I am a 33 and have practiced ashtanga yoga for about 8 years on and > off...
