It's useful to have some guidance about how to make lifestyle choices which are sustainable, worthwhile, and supportive of our ultimate goals. This workshop will help us establish a firm foundation to experience the powerful and ever deeper aspects of yoga practice. We will learn Ayurvedic principles to balance ourselves, define our asana practice, and refine our speech through study of Sanskrit. Patanjali, whom we thank at the beginning of each practice, wrote extensively on each of these subjects, and this workshop seeks to integrate them into life and practice. The workshop will include an individual ayurvedic consultation to determine your constitution and help you make appropriate health and dietary choices, daily mysore practice, a full breakdown of the primary series vinyasas, and correct pronunciation and meaning of the ashtanga mantras and asana names. (This workshop contains the same material as module one of the previous 200 hr Intensive.) $1100 by December 18, $1250 thereafter Lori Brungard, Christopher Hildebrandt, and Lisa Schrempp are all dedicated practioners and teachers of Ashtanga Yoga. As long-time students of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Rangaswamy, they are all authorized to teach Ashtanga by KPJAYI, and have each spent more than a year studying in Mysore. They are all also 800 hr certified Jivamukti Yoga teachers. In addition, each one has studied his or her area of specialty for ten or more years with senior teachers in that field. Lori Brungard (Asana instruction) was a professional modern dancer for more than ten years. During this time she explored many avenues of physical and psychological expression in movement and learned a deep awareness of human anatomy. Her skills as a teacher lie both in her ability as a body worker (she is also a certified Thai Yoga Therapist) and in her analytical insight into breaking down the postures into their component and complimentary parts. Christopher Hildebrandt (Sanskrit) pursued doctoral studies at Brown University in classical philology and Sanskrit. He has taught at Brown University, Franklin and Marshall College, and New York University. He trained teachers at Jivamukti Yoga, taught at Karma Yoga, Yoga Sutra, and currently teaches at New York Yoga. His teaching is engaging, and sparked with brilliant insights into the classical texts. Lisa Schrempp (Ayurveda) is a 1999 graduate of the Ayurvedic Studies Program directed by Dr. Vasant Lad, with whom she studied sacred texts, herbs, disease pathology, and Pancha Karma treatments. She apprenticed with Dr. Lad in a clinic in Pune, India. She served as a mentor and educator for teacher trainees at Jivamukti Yoga, and currently teaches at Yoga Flow in Tucson, AZ. Lisa brings a depth of knowledge of the whole scope of yoga to apply Ayurveda through lifestyle choices to enhance our progress on the path.
