Guest guest
I practice 5-6 days a week. If I am lucky, I go to mysore classes 2x a week and practice at home the rest of the week. I mostly practice the second series. Can anyone offer advice on how I can make my home practice more productive? I'd like my home practice to be as effective as my mysore classes, but I'm never as flexible or as focused. Thanks! Catherine
Guest guest
Hi, Â For my home practice, I use Sharath DVD, and I try to feel like having a private class with him ! But I don't know if he has a DVd for 2nd series ! Try to be enthusiastic when you're going to practice, not " productive " , Any practice with an open heart is good anyway. Guest guest
Classes at Yoga studios are very differnt just by there nature. The energy of the participants, the heat, the shape of the room, the time of day, the smells, the noise etc change the dynamics of the energy. Your home will never be like practicing at the yoga studio because you don't have the same elements present. A home practice is where all the external energy that is provided by the other participants evaporates and all that is left is you. I find that my house has a quiet, soothing energy and that my practice slows down here. At first I tried to fight that and I would beat myself up for not doing a bind that I would normally do in class. I would also try to make the room really hot and force myself to move really fast and go deep. This created an energy of fighting and it made my practices unpleasant. I learned to embrace the quiet energy of my home and I can relax and find stillness in my home practice where I cannot find that in a studio practice. I get some of my best inspirations, insights and creative thoughts when I practice at home. When I get distracted, I just laugh at myself and keep moving. Studio practices are great though. It is a time for kicking it up a notch, concentrating and being bold.It is a time for communication and giving and recieving of energies. Just acknowledge that it is different and move on. I have mysore with a group in my home and it is different from mysore at a studio and practicing by myself at home and I embrace that energy as well. Practice reflects life and life reflects practice. Go with the energy of the day. Be in the present moment. Trying to recreate what you get in a studio is not being in the present moment. Anything but being in the present moment brings suffering.
Guest guest
hi there, i have a toddler running around pulling my hair and sometimes jumping on me while i am trying to do supta kurnasana - my only advice is stick at it as you will soon find that you in fact need to train your mind in concentration (dharana), one of the vital limbs in yoga, it will get better i promise, it just takes time, and when you are not as productive, just think how patient you have been for getting through the whole series on your own - you're doing great and all of it is part of the journey itself. anyway, hang in there and keep at it, Warmest wishes, Sophie ________________________________ catwang123 <no_reply > ashtangayoga Tuesday, 10 February, 2009 4:07:12 ashtanga yoga Home practice I practice 5-6 days a week. Guest guest
It is not about lowering your expectations. It is about being in the present moment. Where you are is where you need to be or you would not be there.
