Guest guest
Thanks for all who responded to my post. I feel better about my home practice already. I just needed to lower my expectations and accept it for what it is.
Guest guest
Hi there, I had no access to a teacher a bout a year ago, after 3 years of regular morning Mysore. I had to either practice alone or quit. I practised alone, and it was hard sometimes and sometimes easier. I learnt a lot from this year. My practise is my own and I don't need anything (not even a mat at a push) or anyone to do it. I was camping at various friends houses for a few months before moving to Australia so I even lost a familiar practice space. I practised next to stacks of empties in someone's utility room, in the freezing cold, in the dark, outside,...wherever I could. I went to Mysore a few years ago so I close my eyes and spend some time remembering the smells of the Shala, the noise, the feelings of the place and the voice of Guruji. Then I chant and start practise. I still don't have a teacher, it's been over a year now, but I'm still doing a morning practise. No, I haven't progressed on to new and complicated postures but I am continually rediscovering those I have. Some practises are distracted and difficult, frustrating...but that's the way it is sometimes. Maybe some sitting and breathing time is required! A lot of the time it's wonderful, solitary, quiet...I feel so privileged to have these moments in my life. I found that reading " Bringing yoga to life " by Donna Farhi was really inspiring. She mentions that having a year of solitary practise is very beneficial. I've come to believe that too. I am looking forward to having a practice place once again and a teacher though, I miss the energy in the room and the heat. Oh and the adjustments. There's no substitute for a good teacher (other than yourself) ashtangayoga , catwang123 <no_reply wrote: > > Thanks for all who responded to my post. I feel better about my home > practice already. Guest guest
Yes home practice, and also practice at varied locations has great value, I have been trying to practice on the roof of my building when weather is good, but there is a very SLIGHT but annoying slope, otherwise great. I would say that for me the only MUST is WARM space, if my fingers and feet are cold, nothing else seems to be happening.
