Guest guest
Hello! I am new to this group and was wondering if there is any where out there who can share any help from either personal experience or knowledge about the following situations: 1) How much would one have needed to smoke in order to gain weight after quitting? Has anyone actually LOST weight from quitting? 2) Did anyone go from vegetarian to atkins, or vice versa, from atkins to vegetarian or at least almos? What where the consequences? 3) HAs anyone tried acai berry? What were the results? 4) If yoga is supposed to help by calming us, etc. does ashtanga do the same as other (most types) of yoga? Does is stimulate or slow down our metabolism? 5) Does anyone know of any TRULY DYMANIC ashtanga yoga videos? (Bryan Kest mabye?) 6) Finally, I'm looking to take courses in ayurveda, while continuing yoga (ashtanga ) practices, or workshops, etc. It could be anywhere in the US. Any suggestions? THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest guest
hi there, will try to reply as best as i can: (1) i used to smoke 30 cigarettes a day and over time the yoga overtook the smoking to the point where i no longer have any urges - it takes time - i personally did not put on weight nor did i lose it (2) i went from almost veg to atkins after having a baby and went quite muscular as i needed the protein to rebuild muscle, but then went more toward veg as i felt stronger with my muscles rebuilding - the meat / protein makes muscles more dense and after them being VERY stretched, this was appropriate for me, but i did phase it out after a while as i feel it impacts / inhibits stretching a bit (3) i have heard about this myself and want to try - will let you know when i know. (4) ashtanga is a dynamic practice that is very purifying with the sweat, heat and breath - the practice itself brings on a lot of emotion and mind-stuff but the minute you reach the inversions towards shavasana, the calmness that has set in over the practice is overwhelming - it is wonderful - that is my experience anyway:) (5) John Scott / David Swenson (6) this is where i can't help you, but if i hear of anything i will gladly share it - my only experience here was with Caroline Klebl - she is based in San Francisco and is a committed ashtanga practitioner who has studied ayurveda - perhaps contact her - www.sourceofyoga.com hope this helps a little, take care and warmest wishes, sophie ________________________________ rodriguezlina <rodriguezlina ashtangayoga Friday, 3 July, 2009 15:40:58 ashtanga yoga Lots of questions about: smoking, diet, metabolism and summer sessions Hello! Guest guest
[Rodriguez] 2) Did anyone go from vegetarian to atkins, or vice versa, from atkins to vegetarian or at least almos? What where the consequences? [Darrell] I went from V to A quite a few many years back. No consequences I noticed, no change in weight loss success. [Rodriguez] 4) If yoga is supposed to help by calming us, etc. does ashtanga do the same as other (most types) of yoga? Does is stimulate or slow down our metabolism? [Darrell] I find the calming is often in the focus rather than the asanas chosen. Given that, though, I use *zazen *as well and stilling the body does have a certain affect that seems unique from movement. Nothing to contribute on the other questions, I'm afraid....
