ashtanga w/knee replacements

Hi, I'll try to be brief so as not to bore everyone w/my tale but it's nice that

you've asked. In fact, I had a number of arthroscopies before my replacements

and was pretty much able to come back to my practice as it was, eventually

(sometimes it took nearly a year to get all the way back). Now however, it's

totally different. It's not likely I'll ever get to 1/2 lotus again, let alone

full lotus (even if I am able to bend so far that I can touch my heel to my butt

which is also unlikely). I skip janu c, modify janu b and skip mari b and d.

I modify other poses as well -- those that involve lotus or 1/2 lotus.

I'm pretty sure my practice is entirely different from those who are really

trying to move forward in the series, not just physically but mentally as well.

Not necessarily better or worse -- just entirely different.

I'm just grateful to be back on the mat and be able to keep my back and hips

strong and flexible, esp as they get used to the new knees.

I don't know anyone else who practices ashtanga with knee replacements (partly

b/c I think most people who get them are older than me -- I'm 41) but if anyone

out there does know of someone I would love to hear about it.

Thanks.

amazing! Do you mind sharing more of your exprerience.

have knee issues as well, i am 3 months post my second knee arthroscopy and i am

currently practicing up to Janu C. I know the Mari's will come with time and i'm

in no rush but i am fascinated how someone with knee replacments is dealing with

the seated sequence, because i could be there in the future :-)

postures inspirational, now after a few years of practice i find stories of

poeple overcoming physical ''setbacks' and still practicing ashtanga

inspirational.
