I will try and practise the preparation exercise for the pidgeon pose as you describe it. In fact, I did do some of those and for once, my knees are fine and I can actually feel a strech in my hips. It is really strange with the Janu Sirsasana poses... it is soo difficult for me to move my torso over the straight leg. I do have Scoliosis in my back, do you this affects my practise? Because I really feel a 'block' in my back with the Janu Sirsasana sequence... But maybe it is really my hips... don't know.. Its just like none else seems to have that problem as much as I do.
