Yoga into meditation breath

Hi everyone!

Hope everyone is doing wonderful.

I have noticed a little problem I have been having. The problem is that

when I do my asanas, I use breath control. After the asanas, I sit down

into meditation and it takes me a long time to just let my body breath

instead of controlling the breath. Basically the release of the control of

the breath is taking too long. I know you just have to relax, but are there

any tips/hints on how to do this quick?

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

First I have to say that not releasing the control of the breath quickly

is _not _a problem. And I'd have to look at the reasoning behind why it

has to happen quickly. We all want everything to happen fast and that's

just not reality. The practice of savasana and letting go is the

practice of non attachment of the physical body and in my mind

practicing death on some levels. It's all about learning detachment

(letting go and being ok to let go). If you go to savasana directly

after asana and prior to meditation, you may find that focusing on

relaxing your physical body will allow the breath to become quiet and

almost non existent. If you choose to practice meditation directly

after asana there are some tools you can use, such as take a deep

cleansing breath, (deep inhalation and vocalized exhalation) to release

the pattern of the breathing style you've been practicing. You may have

to try this several times. You could try to hold the breath for a few

seconds and exhale deeply going into an everyday non controlling

breath. Anyhow, just as with anything else, the more you practice...be

kind to yourself and let go of how long it takes, this may be the key to

getting what it is you need.

Peace
