Guest guest
I think everyone goes through this at times. One thing that really helps is Sangha, or community. Get out and take some classes or workshops to help reignite your fire. There is no real Ashtanga Studio in my area but I still find it refreshing to take some Vinyasa classes to kind of help to get my fire up. Also, watch some inspiring videos on You Tube. Just type in Ashtanga yoga and a bunch will come up. It kind of helps me to remember the excitement I felt in my first class when I first fell in love with Ashtanga. Also, just keep practicing. Even if it is just a few sun salutes a day, the feeling always passes for me and I am always thankful that I kept coming back to my mat. Guest guest
Thank you for responding Shanna... I am trying to build my practice. I do think like minded comunity activites are my best bet. I might even take one of those six days as a day of Fasting... or a day to perform random acts of kindness... or a day of seated and walking Meditation practice. I guess it is all about giving myself a mix. So that I don't get in a rut. Do you find that if you back off sometimes... you come back and it gets easier. I seem to progress in my Practice if I don't try so hard to " Grasp " my Practice so tightly. Like the strings on a lune... not to tight, not too loose... Makes the sound beautiful to the ear. I will try to loosen, or " lighten " my grasping... Lol. I also love to watch a " master " link the Yoga Mala. It is an amazing practice. To watch someone who is advanced, is like watching a ballet of Heart - Mind - Soul. The " Music " is the sound of the breath in perfect union with movement... Ahhhh... I am off to watch John Scott's DVD... Inspiration (Expiration) ashtangayoga , shanna small <lashannasmall wrote: > > I think everyone goes through this at times. Guest guest
In regards to backing off on the practice, it depends on your individual goals and why you come to the mat. For instance, with me, even though I am not attached to the individual poses, I do think it would be cool to float through handstand or go all the way through second series without stopping. I know that these things won't happen if I don't work towards them and I find joy in working on these skills even though they are not the ultimate purpose for my practice if that makes sense. There have been many times in my years of practice that I have backed off and I don't regret it. It should be a well thought out decision that is not based in random emotions. There were times where I was exhausted from work and family obligations and I made a conscious decision to cut back. However today, my mind was rather occupied and a part of me wanted to not practice, but I knew that it was the ego talking and that now was not a time to pull back but to practice discipline. Every situation is different. You really are the only one that can answer that question.
