Guest guest
Hello everybody, my name is Delfina and I'm new over here, I've just joined the group and I feel very happy :-) I am 29 years old and started seriously practising ashtanga 10 months ago and I LOVE IT! I practise a lot at home, I'm building my practise and trying to keep the 6 days per week, but, sometimes I find it exhausting... I know it's just something to get used to, and I'm not giving up...I'm very happy with the work and progress that I've done up to now ;-) Still I can't understand how can you wake up so early...I usually wake up at 7, and a few weeks ago I tried waking up at 6...but I'm sooo tired afterwards :-) And I dont stay up late...I'm usually sleeping at 11pm How do you manage? How many hours do you sleep? At what time do you go to sleep? How can I help myself changing my sleeping patterns? Was it difficult at the begining? Thanx! Guest guest
Actually staying up to 11:00 is very late for many ashtangis. I'm usually asleep by 9:00, up at 5:00am. Its difficult to alter sleep patterns. Key, is consistency. If you get up early you might be sleepy -- then go to bed earlier that day. eventually sleep schedule shifts. However if you go back and forth, body never resets sleep cycle. -tom On Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 3:47 PM, delfina.willis <no_reply >wrote: > > > Hello everybody, my name is Delfina and I'm new over here, I've just joined > the group and I feel very happy :-) > > I am 29 years old and started seriously practising ashtanga 10 months ago > and I LOVE IT! > > I practise a lot at home, I'm building my practise and trying to keep the 6 > days per week, but, sometimes I find it exhausting... Guest guest
Seems your body requires 8 hrs of sleeptrying going to bed and 9:30 - 10:00PM then try 6:00 am wakeup.Of coarse you body may still require a sleep in day to catch up if need be, allow that to happen as long as you control to on day and not run on.then you are back to it not working good luck MAA --- On Mon, 11/16/09, delfina.willis <no_reply > wrote: delfina.willis <no_reply > ashtanga yoga Sleeping hours ashtangayoga Monday, November 16, 2009, 6:47 PM Â Hello everybody, my name is Delfina and I'm new over here, I've just joined the group and I feel very happy :-) I am 29 years old and started seriously practising ashtanga 10 months ago and I LOVE IT! Guest guest
Welcome. I do asanas 6 days per week, but not all asanas every day. I try to do whole series 3 times / week and all the rest ov times I do warmups and 3-4 standings and the finishing poses. It´s better to do little and often and do much and less. I do all my asanas at evenings, I have not the time at mornings. Sleeps about 7 hours/night. ashtangayoga no_reply Mon, 16 Nov 2009 23:47:22 +0000 ashtanga yoga Sleeping hours Hello everybody, my name is Delfina and I'm new over here, I've just joined the group and I feel very happy :-) I am 29 years old and started seriously practising ashtanga 10 months ago and I LOVE IT! Guest guest
All is about consistency and not so much when to go to bed and when to wake up. I go to bed 2.30 am and up at 6.00am, and sleeps again from 1.00pm to 4.30 pm. You have to try to fit in asanas where it fits and not after what time it is. Guest guest
I've always thought yoga was about eating when one is hungry, and sleeping when one is tired, rather than a fixed and rigid schedule. Guest guest
Try doing a 20 minute Restorative Savasana before going to bed. This will completely relax the body, calm the nervous system and allow you to go into a REM sleep much quicker. This Savasana takes the place of the first 1 or 2 hours you need to get into the deep sleep. You will probably find that you only need 6 hours sleep with this practice. Guest guest
Nope! Our body likes routine & prefer a structured lifestyle. Further, if u r aware of Melatonin, a poweful antioxidant is emitted only at night when u r asleep in dark. Hence lots of people who do night shift gets higher chance of cancer due to low Antioxudant protection. Guest guest
not true for everyone! just look at all the Norwegian people who live in the are where they have half-a-year long days and nights... they are very strong, active, and resistant to cold... how do you structure your sleep there? i think it is up to an individual to decide when will they sleep and when will they practice (or do ANYTHING ELSE in their lives). come on we're not solders, we're not prisoners in this life, to be told what to do, we're free!!! to do anything we want at least with our sleep and our food and most of all WITH OUR OWN THOUGHTS! so think: NO LIMITS, don't limit yourself to a certain fraim. Guest guest
Yes, I´m very aware of that. What I tryed to say (bad english). If you work night shift or late evenings or extremly early mornings, then it is not very practical to everyone to do asanas mornings and go to bed in " right time " . So, instead to live a " perfect yogic life " you maybe have to modify your lifestyle in that way that you practice asanas where it fits and slleps whenever you can. For me, I have to sleep two times every day. I have not the time to sleep 8 hours every time. I can not go to bed same time every day, I can not eat, do asansa, do pranayamas etc on regular basis, I have to adjust my Yoga to fit in whenever I have sparetime. You see, everyone have not a structured lifestyle. And it is better to sleep, eat and practice yoga unregulary than it is to have a yogic lifestyle by force.
