Guest guest
Hi everyone, This a question for yogis who tried other types of yoga and went with ashtanga. Why did you pick ashtanga and what aspects of ashtanga did you like more than other types of yoga? Thank you Mike
Guest guest
This is a question I've answered very often. I started with Ashtanga and continued with it throughout my practice. I've tried almost all other forms of yoga through personal and professional curiosity. I don't think I picked Ashtanga. I think it picked me. I started with a studio that was across town from where I lived and worked. It wasn't convenient but it was where I was supposed to be. I stay with the practice because it has helped heal old knee injuries and I know I can grow old with my practice. I started in my 20's. Now, I'm entering my 40's. People often describe my pratctice as 'graceful', 'fluid' etc. For me, it's a moving meditation. And, that's what I try to teach. I love teaching Ashtanga because of the discipline of my students. Most, not all, have a very strong and dedicated yoga practice. That doesn't mean that they all snap into Supta Kurmasana instantly. But, they do practice regularly, accepting limitations and rising to challenges with ease. And...it's fun...I'm always smiling after practice or teaching! ashtangayoga , JiNN <jinnproduction wrote: > > Hi everyone, > This a question for yogis who tried other types of yoga and went with > ashtanga. Guest guest
Hi Mike,  I have tried other " types " of yoga, Sivananda, Satyananda, Kundalini, Hatha yoga. I didn't carry on simply because I was BORED, and I knew deep down that it was not for me. But when I discovered ashtanga, I have known immediatly that I have found the practice for me Its a bit like when you are going on different dates, but then one day you meet the one.  The other 7 limbs of yoga are the same I think, just the way to practice asanas are different. But we are all going in the same place. --- On Fri, 18/12/09, JiNN <jinnproduction wrote: JiNN <jinnproduction ashtanga yoga Why Ashtanga? ashtangayoga Friday, 18 December, 2009, 18:04  Hi everyone, This a question for yogis who tried other types of yoga and went with ashtanga. Guest guest
Thanks for everyone's reply. The reason I ask that question is because I am thinking about switching to kriya yoga, since from what i've heard and read, it is the quickest way to spiritual development. People have said that kriya yoga takes pieces of the most powerful practices from other yogas and puts it together. Not that I believe what people are saying 100% but I am definitely inclined to try it for a year or so. Anyway here ever done kriya yoga? Thanks Mike
Guest guest
It was just meant. I did Vinyasa at the gym before doing Ashtanga and that teacher moved away. I went to the library and the had Beryl Bender Birch's book, Power Yoga and I loved it. I was in college at the time and I found out that my philosophy teacher was a certified Iyengar teacher. He told me he thought that Ashtanga would be right for me and suggested a studio. I fell in love with it from day one. I do practice other styles but Ashtanga is my heart. The other practices just don't touch me in the same way. ashtangayoga , JiNN <jinnproduction wrote: > > Hi everyone, > This a question for yogis who tried other types of yoga and went with > ashtanga.
