Guest guest
This is my first real post on this group. My apologies if this has been discussed before. I have the following questions: 1. Do I need to be initiated by a guru to recite Shiv Kavacham? 2. If not, can someone provide me a reference where I can get the complete and accurate stotra on the Internet or any other book? Also are there any specific things to keep in mind of while reciting the stotra? Thanks, Sunil There is no *way to* happiness, *happiness* is the way. ________ India Answers: Share what you know. If there are any special rules they will be listed in the phala shruti or in the prologue to the kavacha. If the kavacham in question is specifically the one from skanda purANa, usually referred to as amogha shiva kavachaM, I was told one can say it on own if they already have shiva pa~nchAkShari or shakti pa~nchAkShari Here is a copy. There seem to be some variant readings at places. It will be a good thing to verify the appropriate section of the skanda purANa http://shaivam.org/sanskrit/ssshivak.pdf I am not aware of any restrictions on this. One stray publisher mentions that upadesha is required but I am not sure where he got it from. The phala shruti does not seem to mention any rules. Maybe others can point to restrictions if they are any... Better to ask the teacher's/Guru's permission before saying such things. Guest guest
Thanks Satish. Pardon my ignorance. I have come across another stotra (slightly different) which is also called amogha shiva kavachaM. http://sanskritdocuments.org/all_pdf/amoghashivakavach.pdf Any further inputs you have on this? What exactly do you mean when you say: " I was told one can say it on own if they already have shiva pa~nchAkShari or shakti pa~nchAkShari " (already have shiva panchAkShari: what does that mean?) Do any other group members have inputs? There is no *way to* happiness, *happiness* is the way. The a~nga nyAsa and kara nyAsa i.e. the placing of various aspects of the devata or mantra on different locations of the body or on fingers is different for this version. But the core stotra is the same. > (already have shiva panchAkShari: what does that mean?) It means that if one is already initiated into the shiva pa~nchAkShari or the shakti pa~nchAkShari mantra they can recite the kavacha without the teacher having to teach them in person. However it is good to ask or tell one's teacher before reciting kavacha-s or hR^idaya-s. Especially so, if they contain various bIjAkShara-s.
