Dear members,

Please clear my doubts regarding the following:

I recently got upanayana and after the procedure I met my purohit

personally to learn mudras, nyasa, pranayama procedure etc.

For the pranayama procedure, he mentioned the following:

Inhale through left nostril (repeating twice the mantra - om buhu.om

buvaha..om gam suvaha ..om tapah ...........brahma burbuvasarom )

Retain the breath repeating the same mantra 4 times

Exhale through right nostril repeating the same mantra once

Repeat the above procedure for another two rounds

The first doubt I have seen at many other places (meditation centres,

spiritual centers, yoga retreats etc) people doing the inhalation

alternatively through both nostrils?

Please let me know if there is any significance in doing the inhale

only through left nostril and exhale through right nostril for people

doing Gayatri sadhana as nitya karma.

Secondly I have had problems/side effects playing with pranayama

especially when I held the breath for longer counts. This was long

before I got upanayana.

Do I have to mantain the same ratio as mentioned by my purohit for

inhale, retention and exxhale (2,4,1 - mantra count)

The last question: It takes a while before I ask this question to my

Guruji. In the meanwhile, please clarify this: For people who got

Shodashi as well, do we have to do japa of Shodashi combined with

Gayatri in the same round or does one have to finish the japa/nyasa of

one mantra before going to the other mantra.

To elaborate please let me know which is the correct procedure

(japa - Gayatri.shodashi - 1 ..gayatri.shodashi -

2 ..gayatri.shodashi - 3 ...gayatri.shodashi - 108)

or

(japa - gayatri-1 ...gayatri-2 ...gayatri - 108)

(japa -shodashi-1...shodashi-2 ...shodashi - 108)

Om Sakthi,

Thanks a lot,

Sai
