Guest guest
trinetrA - lochanatrya sa.mpannA, chandra sUryAgni lochanA. She has three eyes that represents the sun, moon and Agni. Her glance has both the brightness of the sun and the coolness of the moon. The third eye represents GYAnAgni. As Bhagavan says in gItA 'GYAnAgniH sarva karmANi bhasmasAtkurute arjuna', She destroys everything that is a product of action with the third eye. Sa.msAra being a product of pUrva karmA is completely destroyed by the fire of knowledge 'GYAnAgni'. Sahasranama refers to this name twice, trilochanA and trinayanA. The third eye denotes paramArtha dR^ishTi and the other two laukIka dR^ishTi. The third eye is a unique characteristic of Lord Shiva, she being 'shiva shaktyaikhya svarUpiNI' has adsorbed his unique characteristics like the crescent moon and the third eye. The very opening of the dhyAna shloka describes her as 'trinayanAm' and 'tArAnAyaka shekarAm' . ... durgAparadevatAyai namaH..
