I have been to Kamakhya.

At my age I find it dificult to upload my picture.

Give me some time

If possible I will upload the picture or otherwise I will give a textual

matter

On the way back from Kamakhya I had the blessing of Ambal to have darshan at

another Sakthi Peetham at Vaikunthpur.

Dear Shri Kameshji,

I had an opportunity to visit Guwahati last September

and have been fortunate to have a darshan of Ambal as

Kamakya. Here are the details.

Guwahati, the capital of Assam is best known for the

Kamakya temple. It is believed that when the holy body

of Sati devi was shattered, the most important part,

that is the " Yoni " had fallen on the Kamakya hill of

the Neel Parbat in Assam. Ambal is worshipped here as

'Yoni Mudra'. Kamadeva is credited with building this

temple. He is also believed to have re-acquired his

beauty (after being reduced to ashes by the Lord) in

this place. It is therefore called Kamrup Kamakya. At

the entrance to the sanctum are two multi-metal

vigrahas of Kameswara and Kameswari. There are a few

steps behing these vigrahas which lead to the 'Yoni

Mudra' of Ambal. There is perennial water flowing

under the 'Yoni' and the offerings are given here and

the water below the 'Yoni' is sprinkled on one's head.

The current temple is believed to have been over 500

years old.

A few meters above the Kamakya temple on the same Neel

Parbat is 'Bhuvaneswari'. While the 'Dasa Mahavidyas'

are also on the hill, it is believed that the visit to

Kamakya Devi is not complete unless one visits

Bhuvaneswari also. It is the highest point in Guwahati

and from Bhuvaneswari, we can see Brahmaputra river in

full flow and the Shiva temple looking in the

direction of HIS consort. The Brahmaputra is said to

have changed its course to facilitate the Lord to look

at Ambal all the time.

The trip to Kamakya is about 40 minutes one way from

the city centre.

Regards,

Vani Sriram
