Guest guest
It is interesting to note the following dhyAna of nR^isiMha from shAradA tilaka. Transliteration: (HK)Harvard-Kyoto Convention narasiMhaM mahAbhImaM kAlAnalasamaprabham | antramAlAdharaM raudraM kaNThahAreNa zobhitam || nAgayajJopavItaM ca paJcAnanasuzobhitam | candramauliM nIlakaNThaM prativaktraM trinetrakam || bhujaiH parighasaGkAzairdazabhizcopazobhitam | akSasUtraM gadAM padmaM zaGkhaM gokSIrasannibham || dhanuzca muSalaM caiva bibhrANaM cakramuttamam | khaDgaM zUlaM ca bANaM ca nRhariM rudrarUpiNam || .......... Along with other qualities he is to be meditated as having a snake as yaGYopavIta(sacred thread), pa~nchAnana - five headed, chandramauli - adorned with crescent moon like shiva, nIlakaNTha - blue throated -again like rudra, prativakraM trinetrakaM - each head has three eyes like sadAshiva, and as of a white complexion like cow-milk(like shiva), holding sha~nkha, chakra, gadA, shUla etc and of the form of rudra(rudrarUpiNaM - different from saying raudraM which just means terrible or angry). The guhyakAlI khaNDa of the mahAkAla samhita also describes nR^isiMha as an avatAra of kAlAgni rudra. Above is not intended to give any shaiva twist: The mantra rAja clearly describes this devata as mahA viShNu.
Guest guest
Dear Satish, I believe that Dhyana Shloka is given by Pandit Raghavabhatta of Varanasi, a commentator on the Sharada Tilaka rather than being from the ST itself. A similar Dhyana is called Sadashivatmaka Narasimha Dhyana which is used to do a Samputikarana of Mantra Raja with the Mritasamjivini Rik. This iconography of Narasimha using the attributes of Shiva may be related to the Nrisimha uttaratapini which says that Nrisimha is Mahadeva or Maheshvara. In Jagannath Puri also Narasimha and Mahadeva are worshiped together cheers, RR
Guest guest
namaste, > I believe that Dhyana Shloka is given by Pandit Raghavabhatta of > Varanasi, a commentator on the Sharada Tilaka rather than being from > the ST itself. I just checked and above is true. >This iconography of Narasimha using the attributes > of Shiva may be related to the Nrisimha uttaratapini which says that > Nrisimha is Mahadeva or Maheshvara. In other versions he is even addressed as pinAka(shiva's bow) pANi This is amusing because viShNu's bow is shAr~Nga. Received the following in private from another member. " Mahasannidhanam* has confirmed in a book that the Dhyana shlokam of Sri Nrsimha and Mahadeva are very much similar and the darshan that the Lord gave him confirmed it. " * current shR^ingeri AchArya sa
