I would like to share my information about this: Mantra Mahodadhi says: “Bija Mantra Dasamaantas tato mantra nakhaavadhi Vimstyadhikvarna ye maalamantrastu te smrutah” It says there are 3 types of mantras: 1) Bija Mantra : from 1 to 10 aksharas are called Bija Mantras 2) Mantra : From 11 to 20 Aksharas are called Mantras 3) Maala Mantras : Greater than 21 aksharas are called Maala Mantras Hence, Khadga Maala and Chandi Sapthasathi are called Maala Mantras.
